For advanced users, don't forget to reformat before loading with data to take advantage of the native 4K sectors. Seagate's drives come emulated 512. Download SeaChest Utilities to issue the command and change them over from the old format.

Could you please explain this in a bit more detail?

Might be worth highlighting that these Ironwolf drives are CMR rather than painfully slow SMR.

You will probably be returning at least 2 of them anyway as I have with mine received a couple of days back as it was faulty. I don't think that these things tolerate the bashing that they get in their warehouse and during delivery well.

You can add an extra two years warranty (making 4 in total) from Amazon for £6.39 which doesn't seem too bad to me. (edited)

How do you do that? I did not seem to find that option when I bought it a few days ago.

Are they recerts or fake! Can they be registered. Amazon can not be trusted when it comes to hard drives!!!!!

Agreed, their packaging is terrible also!
I have 5x4TB versions of this drive in my server. They've been running great for 4 years 24/7 now however I had to RMA 2 of the drives on the day I got them.

They were soo poorly packaged, I bet they were just damaged in transit.

Thanks I ordered one as well. First NAS drive that will go in my NAS enclosure. Was YOLOing with spare laptop HDDs before in RAID 5. One drive (laptop drive) died after a year of 24/7 use. Hopefully these lasts longer. (edited)

Can I use this as a normal hdd
    Avatar
Yep. Obviously you'd want an SSD as your boot drive though, with this for additional storage.

Sorry to hijack the thread somewhat but ive bought a Seagate Barracuda 2TB and this is what Seagate software reports:

I've tried to paste a screenshot from the smart software but i don't seem to be successfull!?

Can anyone advise? Thanks in advance. (edited)

This is a good price. Just wondering if mechanical harddrives in general will see a further drop in prices since SSDs are getting cheaper.

This is expired now, it listed for 167£ currently.

Cheers! I've bought two for my server.
