Would this essentially be £599.99 with the Quidco cashback today?
Hasn't the s20+ been posted at £599 in the last 48 hrs?

Thanks, so this is the uk model? I though that had 12gb ram? I'm lost with all the variants of the s20 but I'm keen to replace my s9+

S20 has 128GB storage and 8GB ram. I replaced my S9+ with Note 9, Note 9 with S10, S10+ and S10 5G, sold S10, kept S10+ and S10 5G.

you should try the ONEPLUS 8 £599 from Amazon, instead.
£650.
No 5G.
Didn't vote. It's a deal, in that it's a good price. Still I don't think I'd like to pay that much money for a 4G phone.

Is 5g that prominent? Like I just don't see it reaching me in York anytime soon.

There's three 5G in my area, and at my office in Central London there's vodafone/o2/ee 5G. But I was more thinking that if I wanted to buy an expensive phone now, I'd want to make sure it did 5G at least. I mean for this money, there's no legit reason Samsung didn't include a 5G baseband in the phone when a £150 Xiaomi phone can have it . I mean if you want this phone, this deal is good .. but I don't see why someone would pay £650 for old tech. It's like they have to get rid of old stock or something

Yeah I think if I lived in a city I would go for 5G. But I just bought a 4g phone tonight (the note 10+ deal I posted) and I think I'm okay with it, I worked for Vodafone when they rolled out 4g and that took years, by the time it reached me in a town outside of York I'll be on a new phone I think!

well at least you have proper fibre in York meanwhile even in London I can't get it. nor can most. But yeah I understand the 5G rollout is going to be slow, probably even slower now with all the huawei stuff :/ I'm after a new phone myself, but as I like to keep them for 2-3 years I'd like to make it as future proof as possible. I'd rather not have to buy another cheapo phone while I wait for a reasonably priced one that ticks all (or most) of the boxes
What's the big deal about 5G? I'm not debating the wider benefits of 5G technology, but there is nothing I do on my phone at present where I would 'need' 5G. Is it tethering? The need to have it for the sake of it/bragging rights? To terrorise your conspiracy theorist mates with, like a silver cross to a vampire? I'm genuinely curious to know. Also note I don't live in London so maybe network congestion prevents you streaming video like a happily do?

people's obsession with 5G is mad, when they know it won't be fully available in the cities for atleast next 3 to 4 years.

depends what city you are in. Why is it mad to want the current / future technology? There's 5G where I live. But why is it not included in a phone that costs this much? I think 5G is a lot more useful than having a 120Hz screen but people go equally nuts over that too.
IdrisStonebirk01/08/2020 22:46

There's 5G at the train station I use (St Pancras), there's 5G at my office in Soho, there's 5G in my home area too. Is there 4G everywhere in the UK ? (hint: no)

For me, I don't buy phones every year, or even every 2 years normally. I like to keep them for 2-3 years. So I'd like to make sure it has future options. You might ask why does anyone need 120Hz screens (Honestly, most people using a phone for every day use will not notice the difference - same with people who want 4K screens, at that size, at that distance you won't notice and anyone who says they do is full of it).

The problem I have is that the networks are just not good enough when you compare the speeds we get here with speeds people get in Europe, heck even Romania has faster networks than we do, so by going 5G I hope to get more speed. But the real benefit might be that the networks are busy refarming their 4G spectrum to 5G so I presume (I said presume, don't shoot me if i'm wrong) that means more bandwidth for 5G and less for 4G.

My point was, at £650, why not include 5G? I honestly don't see the technical reason for it here. It doesn't seem to be for cost savings. Presumably Samsung did it to charge a premium on those phones that do it. If a crappy Chinese phone can have 5G and cost < £200 why can't a £650 samsung have it ?
