Just be careful if you’re not used to using a multimeter

Well, yes - if you know what you are doing and can see the terminals. However, I suspect you are talking about the contact pens which this is not.

If you mean contactless, no it won't.
Reviews suggests it takes around a second to give a reading, which particularly when testing continuity sounds a bit rubbish.
Looks identical to the one I got from Tandy (using their own brand name of "Realistic") about 15 years ago when they closed down in UK. I keep it in the car but has been handy a couple of times when away from home.

This isn’t necessarily an issue as all meters have to apply a circuit to register resistance so they all process this differently. What is an issue is people buying this to test for mains voltage. There are better and cheaper out there

This is like asking "is this sword safe for swallowing" !
The answer has to be, in the right hands yes...
The fact you have to ask would steer me to recommend either a plug in tester (3 lights) or a contact less probe, but even these are by no means safe to use, so please have a think as to what you need.

Yes, it will probably produce smoke & melt.

Multimeter's are great for many jobs, but you might find plugging a lamp in is a good socket tester.

A better one is a specific plug that tests sockets, as a lamp won't check for a live/neutral wire reversal. They used to cost about a fiver.

For a socket use a plug in socket tester, like 5 quid from Screwfix.
For a wire use a contactless tester, you don't want your fingers near a live exposed wire.
In general get a sparkie in if not sure, they aren't cheap but they are trained to do all this sort of thing safely
