Blackfish is an excellent documentary, just don't forget - Dolphins are caught and herded in the same way, very often resulting in deaths of the adults. These animals are miserable in captivity.

Voted hot - haven't seen Black fish (although I will when I can), but I understand it's very much one-sided, pretty heavy on emotional manipulation and light on facts. SeaWorld have taken the unusual action of rebuffing its claims directly to film critics before they review the film.

Hopefully it will mean the park is nice and quiet for me while the sheep stay away.

Everyone is entitled to their thoughts and opinions and for those who still wish to go to sea world This is a good price

Make your own mind up about Blackfish, personally think its a load of propaganda tripe. Don't just watch their side of the story do some research.

I assume you're also against people having pets at home for the same reasons mentioned in Black Fish?

Or you're just easily swayed?

Boycott SeaWorld and watch Blackfish!

The reason they are dropping their admission prices is because of their plummeting attendance figures, all as a result of Blackfish exposing their barbaric treatment of killer whales.

Vote cold people.

Boycott..Totally Agree... I love Seaworld been there 3 Times in 30 Years.. even swam with the Dolphins.. Excellent Expierience...but after watching Blackfish,The Cove, Free Willy and Moby Dick.. These Parks will not be getting my custom ever again...

Free Willy and his mates from captivity.................I believe Willy is free but his mates still want out
My kids would love it, they don't know any better but I feel they are sad places

Seaworld still exists because the audiences are the sheep... Ignorant of the facts and led to believe the myths that Whales love captivity are all true....
I fixed the rebuff comment for you...

Their side of the story asters? SeaWorld were approached to pass comment but refused. The footage shown, combined with the testimonies from former staff is all pretty damining in my opinion. I would be happy to read the 'research' you suggested, would be interested to know the benefits of keeping such animals in captivity.

If people are keen to see killer whales or dolphins I would suggest taking a chartered boat tour, far better to see these animals in their natural environment.

If you don't agree with animals in captivity then avoid Seaworld, Disney, Busch Gardens, Flamingo land, London zoo and thousands of other attractions. SW are no worse than any other.
If you study the "documentary" and know the SeaWorld parks well there are lots on inconsistancies & errors.
Google and read there is plenty out there from both parties

Seaworld have the best legal and PR teams available... You can't negate the evidence from former staff, the whale catchers, Scientists and audience members themselves. Just use common sense - why would a huge, highly intelligent and emotional, socially sophisticated animal with thousands of square miles of territory enjoy captivity, often segregated by steel walls from other members of its species??

Update: Looks like Richard Branson might be a fan of Blackfish too.

Thanks for that - I didn't know he had those principles.. Good for him.
Spread the word and put an end to this barbaric, neanderthal practice.

No you didn't - SeaWorld issued the statement, not their lawyers... but well done you for latching on to the emotive themes you came across in a 'documentary'.

Of course they did... after advice from their lawyers. The statement is a crock anyway, only current employees to vouch for them....
I like your use of the words "emotive themes"... Of course. It's an emotive issue (and moral and scientific and ethical and philosophical...)
The evidence against them is overwhelming
Bye...

Wow, and here's silly me thinking that SeaWorld would instruct their lawyers rather than the other way around... If you had said advised by their publicists I might have been inclined to agree.

And yes, emotive themes used to turn the heads of people who are easily manipulated by emotive issues. Never mind that it's a one sided view that would appear to have been firmly and honestly rebutted.

Simply stating "The evidence against them is overwhelming" doesn't make it true - you have to produce actual evidence rather than a link to some shonky website. If that's all it takes then it must be true that Aliens live amongst us.

However, if you're (morally, scientifically or philosophically) against keeping animals in captivity then I would assume you don't have a pet, are vegan and have never visited a farm or zoo.

"Only their current employees vouch for them"? Well, you researched that well...

THIS IS THE BOTTOM LINE !! I have seen the documentary and most of it was what I would have known anyway.I visited Seaworld at Xmas just gone and I believe that they should not keep Orcas as it is way too small for them. They should be in the wild and the handlers don't go in the water with them anymore due to events over the last few years .I did feel sorry for the Orcas whilst watching the shows and the handlers didn't seem too happy either ,seemed more wary than anything else.On the other hand watching the Dolphin,Sealion, otters and other shows was a completely different experience .They looked like they were enjoying it as did the handlers.

Get rid of the Orcas and all will be well at Seaworld !

I hope anyone who still goes to Seaworld develops the most appalling piles personally.

TBF, it would make no difference to my likelihood of visiting whether they had Orcas or not - I go for the rides. I've seen the show twice and when I go back in April I'll probably not bother with it. I thought they looked like they were enjoying it (YMMV) but, as you say, the trainers looked a little wary (as well they should!). However, the habitat is a fair bit bigger than just the stage area.

If I'm honest with myself, there are other attractions there that make me far less comfortable than 'Shamu'. The lone polar bear and walrus in Wild Arctic didn't seem quite right (although they say they rotate the animals) - I didn't feel like the bear had enough space or stimulation.

The article from the link above written by an ex-employee is actually quite interesting - especially her views on whales in captivity.
