This is a decent cheap and fun out with the kids! I go every year and it's well worth a visit.

Southport Air Show, the number one family day out in the North West. Young or old, you are guaranteed to fall in love with the aviation world.

Southport Air Show

Arrive by 10am and you will see light aircraft come in and land on the beach, a spectacle unique to Southport Air Show who has a purpose built runway on the beach.

You can see how it was for the soldiers in the ‘life in the trenches’ display which will be a bell-tented encampment with weapons, equipment and accessories.

You and the family can test your agility on the climbing walls and assault courses on the ground. Or you can experience the next best thing to flying a fast jet in one of the flight simulators.

Then the flying begins...

Your heart will swell with pride as the Red Arrows fly overhead; trailing red, white and blue smoke.

You will feel the Typhoon Fighter Jet before you actually see it as the engines roar thuds in your ears and the jet zooms past.

You can see in action the living and breathing tribute to those who paid the ultimate sacrifice in WW2 when the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight flies in formation. You will also witness the last two Lancaster bombers flying the world flying together as the Canadian Lancaster joins the flight in a meeting unlikely to ever happen again.

History will be brought to life when the Great War Team take to the skies in a 5 aircraft dog fight bringing the WW1 to life with beach explosions and soldiers.

All of this along with a lot more aircraft and activities in the Air Show Village can be enjoyed for the entire day for only £7.32 per person (including all fees), plus if you are bringing little ones along under 5's are free, making this day out with the family even more affordable.

Become part of our aviation past and present; humbled by the World War displays, thrilled by the daring aerobatics and fast jets by booking your tickets today, saving even more money buying in advance.

P.s. Saturday you get to see the VULCAN. (P.s.s I don't spot trains)

Having seen the two Lancaster's last weekend at Duxford this is a superb experience that will probably never happen again after this year and the Canadian one goes home. The sound of 8 X 27ltr v12's all together is exceptional

You knowledge on this subject clearly flies higher than mine

head in the clouds, its all beneath me

Could you not stand outside and see the whole thing for free??
BTW, heat from me

You can but you won't have the same view as if you've paid for a ticket.

Thanks OP just purchased 3 tickets - the kids will love this!

Thanks for this, I'll go Sunday. I. Enjoyed Rhyl Airshow for free but this lineup justifies the fee. The Catalina should be a good spectacle on the coast and to see two Lancasters will be great.
Is parking ok there? From the south "you are directed to the Esplanade car park and Victoria Park", £6 for the day but they also advise park and ride by train.

Just don't be in a rush to leave - hellish queues to get out off the beach/out of Southport afterwards...

Not as good as the Vulcan and the 2 lancasters together

I'd imagine there will be traffic chaos. By all accounts duxford was a nightmare.

Or watch them take off and land for FREE from Blackpool, blackpoolinternational.com/air…how full details here, depending on the weather I'm heading to the beach in front of the airport with a picnic !

There's always chaos at the end of any big event. I can understand rushing to get away with restless kids who have school the next day but otherwise I think people should just relax, break out the picnic and give the traffic an hour or two to ease off and then glide home.

I just got my tickets for the family can't wait

Southport is a great place to visit and if you are prepared to walk for 10-15 minutes there is loads of free parking in residential streets around the town.

Hot from me...already purchased. If I remember correctly the car parking was included in the admission price but now it's ticket in advance and £6 per car for parking in designated parking areas.

I have seven seater so cheap do!

Vulcan Bomber alone is worth the admission.

No trainspotter here but I am a birder oO

Hot! Southport isn't far for me and a lovely day out if the weather is nice. Hope its dry for this weekend! thanks OP

Thinking of going on Saturday, always wanted to see a Vulcan.

Never been to an air show before and I'll be visiting with kids. Do people normally take chairs/picnic blankets?

I presume it's ok to take sandwiches etc... in.

Do most people stay for the whole day? My kids are young so I doubt they'll last the full day. I thought I'd arrive in time to watch the Red Arrows and then leave at the end.

Any recommendations for somewhere to park that's good for a swift exit?

I saw/heard 12 of them yesterday at East Kirby. One Lanc on the ground and two flew over. Also the red arrows flew over earlier in the day, not part of the show, just flying over going somewhere else.

I would have liked to see the Vulcan fly. The Vulcan and Lancaster are my two favourite planes ever I'm happy I saw three Lancs yesterday though. Awesome stuff.

Cracking price, shame its miles away from me.

Tappy, yep best to take folding chairs and sandwiches. There are lots of things to see on the ground too but ideally you need to set up your base station and have one of your party stay with it while the others look round. Worth taking blankets if there's a breeze.
Also factor in queues getting in to Southport, so arrive early.
There is free parking in streets in the North of the town, but you'll have a bit of a walk with your gear.

It's free in bournemouth.. Wouldn't pay lol

What colour smoke they using??Red/white by any chance.seemingly they don't do just blue n white.

If they want Scotland to stay in the union, they should have the Red Arrows fly over Scotland and make everyone feel proud

Instead they send Cameron and Osborne

Plan your route and arrive early! I got stuck for an hour on M11 on way to stansted but goodness knows how long the duxford queue on hard shoulder had to wait. Mind you was kept entertained by the fly overs!

Lol you've been conned.

What a joke

Bournemouth air show has the same line up and is FREE

Great show and we'll worth it free.

Cold

Bournemouth air show this year was great. Think they said there was 1.2million over 4 days with 450000 on the Saturday we went. 7km beaches were heaving. Traffic was fine though as was parking

Typhoon was incredible. Fast with near helicopter/hawk jump jet manoeuvrability

Black cats and red arrows were great

we have all this for free on Bournemouth Air Show

Well itd cost me £30+ to get to Bournemouth vs £10 to get to Southport. I know which I pick

What time would you recommend to arrive in southport for to beat the heavy traffic? If i park in the centre of southport and walk to the front should this help miss some of the traffic when leaving?

Working! Gutted!!

Are you aware that Bournemouth is 270 miles away from Southport? ...and that petrol isn't free? ...and £7 isn't a lot of money?

Cold, live by RAF Brize Norton so see the free all the time.... ( didnt vote cold really :-)

Last time I went a lot of the show was obscured because the organisers let Land Rover/Camper van drivers completely take over the front, they had blocked access with their chairs/BBQs and other furniture, so we ended up having to stand in-between their vehicles to try and get a glimpse, ended up having to walk back near the entrance for a better view, so there was really no point paying to get in. Decided not to attend for a few years after that, hope they have stopped vehicles parking at the front, should be for people only.

Should be free, considering the red arrows are mainly funded by the taxpayer

I'm hoping to go thanks a lot

I live in Southport and would like to warn anyone coming to the airshow for the first time that the traffic is absolute gridlocked chaos, I'm not saying you shouldn't come, the airshow is great, but just be prepared for it to take a couple of hours to get out of town, definitely take something to keep the kids occupied. Also, be aware of our always over-eager traffic wardens that will pounce on anyone that hasn't read the regulations properly on the residential streets. Most of the town centre and surrounding areas are pay & display or permit-holders & it's enforced without mercy. Anyway, hope you have a nice time!
