I love a bit of Sega. It was my preferred choice back in the day for gaming (Sega Master System and then the Mega Drive), a lad down the road had a NES which I'd go occasionally play, but...meh! (cool story).

Anyway, Sega Forever is releasing today, or tomorrow on mobile devices. It will kick off with Altered Beast, Comix Zone, Kid Chameleon, Phantasy Star II, and Sonic The Hedgehog. The games will all be free to play, but with ads. Each game can have the adverts removed for £1.99 each.

SEGA® Forever™ is a free and growing classic games collection of nearly every SEGA game ever released from every console era – Master System, Genesis/MegaDrive, Dreamcast, and more. Available on iOS and Android mobile devices.

  • Play free
  • Save your game progress
  • Leaderboard -- compete with the world for high scores
  • Controller support -- fully integrated wireless Bluetooth controller support
  • Offline play
  • Games released every month; download them all!

Sega are (as mentioned above) going to be releasing games every month for Sega Forever with the intention to bring in both Sega Saturn and the almighty Dreamcast titles into play.

you do realize that not everyone is a sweaty tea leaf like you right? and that some people want to support developers right? and that some people dont want to risk having malicious apps on there devices right?. You also have no idea what your talking about.
'Rise from your grave!'

Oh man, the memories.

Played Altered Beast to death in the late 80's at the Magnum Centre in Irvine.

just get it for free using an emulator. so far I have all Amiga, cd32, Atari jaguar, she's and nintendo 64 games on my laptop.
Oh man, I got to wade in on this one - there is no way that Sonic is cooler than Mario, so there is no way that Sega is better than Nintendo! I can remember vividly having such verbal battles in school over this topic! Then when Mortal Kombat came to both the MegaD and the SNES I felt envy for the first time 'cos my blood was green!?

On the ball with that one. I think that's a record, 4 minutes

Oh, you mistake me. Although Sega was the choice of console, it wasn't really a choice, it was pushed on me as a gift from the parents. Thus giving me a life of Sega devices.

End of the day, I think the patience paid off. Mario may well have been better than Sonic, but the Dreamcast made that all alright again. Obviously ignoring how great the Nintendo 64 was/is.

Take it they haven't launched yet? As if I go to the game on play store it says it is incompatible with all my devices, which I find unlikely as I have 6 different devices and pretty sure these could run on any of them.

It's a nice idea, heated. The launch line up is pretty bland tbh, classic games sure but they must have been repackaged about a million times in various different forms. Come on Sega, give us some of your lesser known hidden gems instead of rolling out the same titles each time! Guess they are playing it safe for launch but hope it starts getting more interesting soon....

Yeah, it's launched in the US, it's rolling out now according to their Twitter feed. I mentioned in the OP that it was today or tomorrow, who knows?

I was thinking it most often depended simply on which console you got first. I got the NES and so the SNES came next for me. I did get a megaD but it always played second fiddle to my Nintendo, just as my Xbox does to my Playstation now. Sadly, I dropped out for the Dreamcast/ Nintendo 64 years... What I miss?

So I bought a Raspberry Pi and installed RetroPie... (January 2017)

I'm currently using a 128GB HyperPie image. I love it to pieces but it would be an absolute pain carrying it around in my pocket.

Does the link posted actually lead anywhere?!

Yeah.http://forever.sega.comYou having issues?

Yeah, it's just linking back to HUKD. Thanks.

See my post, think it's because they aren't live yet here, I have six android devices, old and new and it says none are compatible with any of the games, either they don't want anyone to be able to play them, or they aren't out yet...
Heat! One hell of a back catalogue to be able to dip into!

Appreciate you can connect a Bluetooth controller, but the virtual onscreen controller is bound to lessen the experience
Muyhee

Yeah, it's just linking back to HUKD. Thanks.

It's doing the same for me... Actually, I've had quite a few links do this recently - don't know if it's a problem with HUKD or the app...
Thanks OP! Great find
Everyone loves a bit of sonic i bet most people can even remember the up c down c cheat code at the titlescreen.
This sounds fantastic.
Does that say Dreamcast?
Even better, I'll be able to play Power Stone 2 as nature intended, not via Reicast or PPSSPP.

If we're discussing the Mega Drive version (as the Master System didn't have a C)

It was up, down, left, right *chime*, A + Start.

Ads in Sonic are 30 seconds and unskippable, as well as large banner ads. Deleted.
Damn, I paid for these on android when they released, now they've make them full of ads, and dropped to free without a refund. I'd rather have the ad-free versions I paid for.
The Sonic one is better than emulation as it's a remastered remake with new modes and characters

Are you sure that's the case mate, or are you assuming?

When they did it with Crazy Taxi recently, you can still download the ad free versions by grabbing them from your purchase history.

you guys do know that you can get any android game for free right? take a game like crazy taxi and just Google

crazy taxi APK

then it's yours. the APK is basically the software code to say its an android game and not an apple game for example

Sega

Does it do it???

Sega

If it doesn't do that at the start as it loads

I'm ooooot

Heat boom
Just tried Sonic. It plays a 20 second advert after each level. To be fair it'd be better to just pay the rather small admission fee to remove adverts, I would have it if it wasn't for the obnoxious onscreen controls. Still, it has a nice wide-screen presentation. Will come back when Phantasy Star Online gets a release.

Will adblocker work with these games?
SEGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

This is thievery. Using the official app gives money to Sega, whether paid or through ads, and helps fund initiatives like this and future ones.

Those who say emulation doesn't have any effect now have a direct example of a publisher rightfully wanting to use their back catalogue.

Oh man I wish for this so very much. But not on mobile, please not like that. Switch would be a very nice home for it. Don't see them ever doing it tho when they won't even release PSO2 over here

Unfortunately you won't because that was a Capcom game.

Each one of these Forever games has a £1.99 version that removes all ads. If you own another version of them on Android then you get the paid Forever version free of charge.
Sega should make official and high quality Bluetooth controllers for each of these ststems available for both Apple & Android if they are serious about the success of this project.
the layout is very important and 3rd party controllers won't be ideal.
