Cheap enough to grab & have some retro fun with, I've ordered one to show my kids what gaming was like in the "old days", I'm hoping that I will be able to beat my 6yr old in something at last!
Great reviews & seems to be plenty of stock around

This looks awesome! would of loved it to include road rage or street fighter mind.

looks fantastic....shame it doesn't have streets of rage....I loved that game X)

Ah, the memories. Altered Beast, Streets of Rage 2 and Evander Holyfield's Real Deal Boxing were my favourites, back in the day.

I am pretty sure I had this one before (there have been a few) and I would steer clear. The emulation can be a bit shoddy and the dpad is pretty weak. It is the SMS and not the mega drive meaning the game collection isn't going to be as good. You can't save either. You could go on alibaba im sure and get a portable emulation machine that would do everything 16 bit and below for cheaper.

exactly my thought!

I've got one of these but with different games on it and they're extremely poor quality with low res screen.

Or were you both thinking Road Rash?

If it wasn't obvious by the 2 buttons on the front it's worth pointing out to anyone that might not know, that this is a master system/game gear emulator not a mega drive emulator. Argames make various versions and they look very similar but are vastly different - and it explains the slightly odd game collection it is shipped with.

Personally I would spend the extra 15 and get the megadrive / genesis version which also comes with some cracking titles and an SD card slot so you can run roms assuming that you own the game already...

I wouldn't recommend that either. The mega drive one could have been great but they stuffed up the emulation even more. The sound quality is almost nails on a chalkboard. I wanted to get one for travel and read reviews about the sound quality beforehand and thought they may have been exaggerated a bit, but no, the sound emulation is disgusting. Sonic tunes sound nothing like you remember them. You can't even save in games even when the original games allowed it.

Get a Raspberry Pi.

It's a good price, but there are better options out there. For example, this one on Amazon at £17.89 is the mutts nuts with it's increased screen size (+.4") and comes with an SD slot to import your own games to the device.

It comes pre-loaded with '20 built-in SEGA games including Sonic the Hedgehog and Streets of Rage' and has 6 buttons as opposed to the two on the Argos listing. More games in-build include 'Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle & Shadow Dancer: The Secret of Shinobi' (sold).

Personally speaking, I think the Amazon one would be the better choice, but I don't know if the Argos one includes a SD card slot, which would be the selling point of a device like this for me.

I try not to be outwardly critical of stuff like this as I'm a retrogaming snob and my standards are needlessly high. It'll do the job for some people as a blast of nostalgia or a bit of fun to keep kids quiet.

I suspect most on here won't be overly bothered about the colour reproduction, sound issues or refresh rate issues that you or I might.

Obviously the official correct answer is a modded PSP

Good point. For kids in the back seat of the car or on the train/plane it would do the job. I just hate how at games had the opportunity to make a great portable machine and they completely stuffed it up.

Oh my God road rash!!! Might have to go in the loft today....

If it had more games, I'd have been all over this. Has to have: altered beast, road rash, Robocop vs Terminator, alien 3, streets of rage, Mercs, outrun. Could have been a winner with more games

Many thanks for the link for this.

Do you know where the games can be downloaded for an SD Card for this?

Thanks

These old games are much better remembered as being great without returning to them. It's like the old saying 'never meet your heroes'
People remember how great their first cars were. You sit back in it now for a 300 mile holiday journey and your great mark one fiesta will soon give you new memories.

Tried ordering in Northern Ireland. Out of Stock in all stores and wouldn't let me place an order

Voted Hot though, seems like a great wee stocking filler

would be lovely if it could be moded for other titles as half is amazing games and other half not so much...heat added none the less

I bought an arcade table from a company last week with the raspberry pi and thousands of games,... Its absolutely amazing..

yes. Many people make portable devices with it. Just google it and you will see many

cold. Buy a PXP handheld console on ebay for about 12 quid which has hundreds of megadrive and NES games. same style of console but loads more games and half the price

That sucks. I got excited when I seen the green clock with Portadown, Craigavon, Omagh and Liburn. Turns out they really don't have any.

Megadrive resolution was 256x240, I doubt this is worse

Think I just picked up the last one in East London. All stores are sold out. Cheers!

Pretty much my opinion too

how smooth is the gameplay on these? it decent? sonic speed?

Nintendo DS Lite is going for £25.00 on CeX and with a flashcart you can play whatever you want on it. Much better deal than this.

It says 2.8" screen, not 4?

Ah just saw the point
