Something has to be shot in 4k to be viewable at 4k.

If something is filmed in 4k, it will be amazing picture quality on a 4k TV, the content is irrelevant.

until 4k equivilent media comes out, such as whatever will replace blu ray, and freeview HD, then the display will only show what they are created in. upscaling doesnt really work in my experioence either. this tv does get some awful awful reviews. be weary.

will be a pile of cack.....why do people think because its says 4k the quality will be great.....even branded low end 4k TVs aren't that good...save your pennies and buy a decently reviewed 1080p set instead

Most given by people who have not even seen it. Amazing how people can review things without seeing it.

I use mine as a second monitor. Does have some problems but overall a great piece of kit for the money. At 2 ft you can't see the pixels. Lag is the problem at 4k but at less than a quarter of fifth of a 4k monitor I can't complain.

Well thats the problem, everyone else does complain, and rightly so. What is the point of buying a 4K tv at "a quarter of a fifth" if it doesn't do what its supposed to? Firstly, its a tv, not a monitor. Using it as a monitor is pointless because it is ribbish at that as you have pointed out. It only does 30hz at UHD so again, useless as a monitor. So using at as a tv or a monitor has lots of issues, as everyone else states, therefore 'not a deal' as its a bag of trump.

I also play movies on it and thats not a problem at 30hz. i send it at 1080p as that what a lot of movies are for me and using the upscaling cable it give 4k. I know it is only upscaled so not perfect but I can sit close and screen pixels cant be seen, and the upscaling has got Technicolous approval which a lot of higher end sets may not be as good as.
Since I put spread sheets and photos on it and things which are static the lag is not a problem. I then use my normal monitor to do the work on referencing on the 4k.
It can be used as a monitor but lag is a bit of an issue. Clicking the close button etc can take a bit longer to pinpoint. This is not just an issue with this 4k TV but all since hdmi is only 30hz.
Most monitors are 34" at best so buying a 4k 40" monitor is not possible even at 4 to 5 times the price.
There is nothing wrong with the tv set.Colours/blacks contrast seem OK to me.
I guess most people look for the faults. But even my friends samsung 4k 55" has problems and if I were to look at most tv I could find problems. Like I say to many people give critical judgment without ever seeing the item.
If you look at the negative comments on ukhd 99% of people commenting have never seen or used the item. I wish I could read book just by looking at the covers.

Your missing the point....yes items have issues, but they are issues that can be fixed if there is a problem with the kit...but this TV is cheap for a reason...because its cheap kit....4k quality will be poor at best....and if you only feed it 1080p source material why bother with a 4k screen...and a poor one at best...dont get me wrong...if you need/want 4k monitor then by all means get one...but no one in their right mind NEEDING to work with 4k material would buy this screen...

When I'm watching movies I feed it 1080 and the tecnicolor upscaler shows as 4k. When using as a monitor ie excel, images I use 4k direct.

"but no one in their right mind NEEDING to work with 4k material would buy this screen" ...40" screens do not exist in monitor format therefore you have to make a compromise. I really want a people carrier that turns into a sports car for the motorway but they dont exist and I have to make do with whats available.

This tv is fine but with limitations that all 4k tv's have ie Samsung, Sony, LG etc. The lag is on all tv not just this cheap TV.

My analogy is with a car.
My people carrier does a good job at all tasks. going to the dump, taking kids to school, going on holiday, traveling to friends. Lots of difference uses. It's not the fastest, biggest or comfortableness of all cars, but it does the job. Yes I could spend 5 time the price for a car that did each job better but it would only be twice as good and I would have to take out a mortgage to afford it.

For the price quoted this 4K tv will be fine for some people. If I paid 3 times the price all I would get is a name to go with the set with very little image improvement.
