Can anyone advise any other good mechanical watches for that price range or under £300 , thanks in advance. I see quite a few negative points on Seiko affordable range SkX etc. from various sources.

Honestly, I'd just go for a Chinese brand off AliExpress like San Martin, Cronos etc. they feature ceramic bezels, hacking and hand winding and the movements are usually Japanese or ETA clones (PT5000 or if you have the money Sellita ETA clones). The cheaper Seiko, Citizen etc are all manufactured in China, Malaysia etc anyway. I have a few Chinese brand watches and various Seikos, Citizens, the Chinese watches are fine and keep good time (I have a Rolex Submariner homage by Cronos with a PT5000 movement and it keeps excellent time i.e. gains 5-10 seconds a day).

I was looking at these but eventually went for a Hamilton Khaki Automatic for the Sapphire screen. I'm glad I did... I constantly bash it off things and the sapphire seems virtually indestructible.

This also needs a better strap. It seems strange to have an automatic watch with a display back, then cover it up.

    Good price though.

No disrespect intended to this deal, but it baffles me why Seiko continue to use Hardlex in their watches. Even cheap Chinese brands use Sapphire, yet some of Seiko's £500+ watches use Hardlex. Drives me mad!

This looks super tactical and military. I wear it with a flying helmet I bought to drive my car. I hooked a vacuum hose to a cricket box I got at a charity shop and strap it to my face like a fighter pilot mask. Makes me feel like Maverick.

Reminds me more of a nursing watch.

Seiko are moving out of the low end of the market, they aren't the good value they used to be...

I would sooner go for one of the Chinese clones now, same movement and better specs for less money, its not as though Seiko is a premier brand any more. Just a premier price lol

‘The original features.’ Didn’t one of these features used to be that the crown was at the 4 o’clock?
    TheAVJunky's avatar
Yes, originally had the crown at the 4 o'clock, which is the one I have. Not sure that the current model is really a 'recessed' crown.

Nice looking watch. One for the Seikophiles I guess.

Quite a novelty, a watch that is just that, one you can tell the time on at a glance.
