About this deal

This deal is expired. Here are some options that might interest you:

This watch is a boys toy come true - orange, largeand automatic.

There are cheaper out there but this is via amazon prime so you get it next day and can return it for free plus watchnation is in the UK. It is also unlikely to be fake.

so posted as a peace of mind - watchnation themselves sell it direct for £279!

the reason I did not go for the cheaper nonUK was this review forums.watchuseek.com/f2/…tml

This isn't actually the watch known as an Orange Monster. This one is a watch from Seiko's '5' range, and is sometimes referred to as the Mini Monster. The actual Orange Monster (which is on the 4th generation now I think) has 200m water resistance and meets ISO diving standards, and has a solid screw caseback with the Seiko wave logo on it. The Seiko 5 is only resistant to 100m, lacks the official diving certification, and has a glass display back, which shows the (not very attractive) movement, as well as having a less chunky case. Still a good budget watch, but not to be confused with it's professional spec cousin.

It would be very helpful for people I think if you put "Seiko 5" in the title so as to make it clear what range this watch is from and so as not to get them mixed up for anyone that is looking at this but has heard of the Monster.

Still available at £122.90 shipped from Japan, but I would agree with an earlier comment that an extra £18 to expedite delivery, to not to have to concern oneself with import issues and to simplify or avoid any potential returns issues is money well spent. (edited)

Don't know how it works but do Amazon market place sellers price match each other?

Darn - watch nation have upped the price to 232 - I wonder if they will honour the original purchases?

There was a time when the Monster was in the £150 range (especially buying from the far east). That time is long gone unfortunately, Seiko have been trying to reposition a lot of their formally cheap watches as mid-range ... without really any upgrade in quality.

A new Monster now will set you back £500 odd which is a rip-off for what they are (mineral crystal, crappy stamped clasp etc). This is an inferior watch but vastly more bang-for-buck.

That's astonishing. I paid £110 delivered for mine quite a few years ago (from a far east seller)...no way on earth I would have paid £500. I remember at the time that the version with the rubber wristband could be had for £99.

It's funny you should mention the clasp. Shortly after getting mine I fell down a flight of stairs and the clasp didn't survive. The jeweller I took it to ended up sending it to Seiko Europe to get a whole new band fitted.
