As a non-vegetarian who needs to eat a Low GL (low carb) diet, I get through a fair amount of pulses too as they are the nearest thing in terms of texture to carbs that I can handle!

Well, they are reasonable price for some, (butter beans) but Kidney beans range from about 20p a large (400g) can, AIdi & Lidl) so NOT cheap for Kidney beans.
Asda can also compete with similar or lower price on one brand (KTC) with Cannellini, Borlotti and Haricot beans, usually in the ethnic section, and Chick peas of various brands even cheaper (24/25p)

I have to say that the butter beans from Tesco are pretty poor quality. I've rather pay double for the Napoli branded or get the Sainsburys own brand which is somewhere inbetween Tesco and Napoli for quality.

Can't argue with the price though, Sainsburys used to do 3 for a £1 but stopped this about 18 months or more ago.

had no idea Kidney beans were so cheap in lidl/aldi will have to look as I thought this was a good deal!

Tesco Value Kidney Beans are absolutely fine, and are 19p for a 400g can!

Lidl used to do a much bigger range of canned bean varieties at one time, but now it's a bit scant, with just Butter Beans and Kidney beans - Oh, and "bean salad" which I don't buy as I can't stand vinegar, and they are full of it!

It's certainly the type of product that value ranges in supermarkets usually are OK, although I don't often buy at Tesco at all, but it's one thing I probably would buy.

I should be better organised and use dried pulses, and soak them, but it means I tend to have plenty in the cupboard but I forget, and end up using the canned ones!

Nice.
