What’s with the obsession with low fat food?

Our bodies break down animal fats so efficiently.

Always makes me laugh when companies go on about low fat this and low fat that.

Mankind would never have progressed this far without a fat rich diet.
I bought two of these and ate both in an afternoon, didn’t put on any muscle

It showed up and was ridiculous. One box of meat which was apparently a £69 meat hamper, 4 “free hampers” with that then I purchased a chicken only hamper and got 6 free tilda microwave rice. I get that the meat may be good but it’s such bad value. Waitrose do the nicest beef I’ve ever tasted and I’d get more for my money there.

Got to admit, I was almost sucked in. Sounded like a lot of food for £39. But actually, the steaks are on the small side, as are the salmon fillets. The mince is only one (large) portion, the two meal kits look like they're for one, and the southern fried chicken is an awkward size (like the mince, too much for one, not enough for two).

Just did a quick comparison; I could save about a tenner buying similar stuff in Asda, or pay about the same at Waitrose. Even my local butcher is only £5-ish more, and it's won a couple of "best in the country" awards.

So seems alright, but not exactly the amazing offer they're making it out to be.

I have been using musclefood for around 3 years now. Their meat is spot on. You won’t go back to supermarket water injected chicken.

While I agree that their meat is much better - both quality and size of individual portions - I still found them to have some water injected. I defrosted a pack of chicken breast from musclefood and one pack from Tesco and they had similar amounts of water to drain.

Still, 100% recommend them over supermarkets.

Sounds like an unlucky experience. My first ever order I did was a £70 order with about £40 of meat and to me it was amazing value for money and still is to this day when I order. You have to remember they are getting insane amounts of orders with limited stock at this time so the delivery issues are likely due to that - my delivery was delayed too, which was unlike previous times.

I may give them another go then if you’re sure it’s not usually like this

I've never ordered any of their premade or 'surprise' hampers, I always pick my own stuff so I can't say whether it will be better next time on that front.
I might have given this a go but delivery on the 27th is just too long to wait
The food is generally excellent but it is a headbake shopping with them. Generally inflated prices with constant offers. "Our best ever hamper" our black Friday hamper is back"all saving like 70%. I'm sure if somebody looked into it they aren't advertising legally. I just stick to getting my chicken from them now, which is excellent

Yeah I agree, I’ve always thought it’s just good copywriting / bull / marketing. I don’t think it’s actually very cheap when your compare the prices you can get at the supermarket.

Supermarkets don’t inject chicken breast generally unless it’s the frozen stuff

The chicken is OK but the every steak I ever had over the course of about a year was tough as old boots, sirloin, flat iron, rump, whatever it was, all disgusting. Complained on numerous occasions so maybe they have improved .
Excellent marketing.
Poor quality meat.
Really bad value for money.
Terrible customer service.
Not a fan of Asda meats, but would buy there before using muscle food.
Do your self a favour and give this a miss.

Same. I get their chicken in bulk and add mince to the order when I can get a decent offer. I avoid all their hampers as they aren’t worth it.

Nothing compares to last Sunday's Costco (Sunbury) prices! 2.5kg chicken breasts for £4.50, 2.2kg mince £8, 1kg salmon side £8. Let's hope that they do a lot more overstocking this weekend.
Yummy

No
Chicken breast will be ok
Rest is junk
Far too expensive imo. And I'm not struggling to get food, the supermarkets have plenty. It's just delivery slots are almost impossible to get. And I need one I have no transport.

I agree. I am constantly urging people to not go to places like Slimming World - most people there put the weight back on, because it's not sustainable.

Having said that, this doesn't look too bad. Lean fish and meat can be a healthy approach when slimming as you get more enjoyable meals with lower calories.

But what's absolutely awful is when people eat loads of low-fat, high-sugar yoghurts, cereals, and other snacks. You are not addressing the fact that you spend all day eating sweet-tasting snacks. You're just lowering the calories in the snacks so that you can keep eating all day.

It's far healthier to eat calorific, high-fat snacks such as nuts, avocados, full fat yoghurt, etc. They will fill you up for longer, you only need a small amount, and you are not constantly eating things that are artificially sweetened and so your taste buds adjust and you no longer crave sweet snacks.
I used to use muscle food alot but reverted back to costco. The steaks are tiny so much you would need 2-3 of them to make a decent portion. The chicken also stinks when you open it and whilst I appreciate a gas might be used to keep the chicken fresh it's still offputting opening the chicken and being greeted with that smell.

The chicken is good yes and the mince however it's not a patch on Costco's which is very good quality for the money

Indeed, especially as most low fat food has tonnes of sugar added... The whole fatty food clogging up the arteries myth has been debunked now as well.
I've used muscle food for around 6 months, started with just chicken which was okay

hampers like this are a waste of time, their sausages are tasteless, the steaks are terrible, and if you complain they offer you replacements - why would i want more rubbish meat?

i switched back to just ordering chicken and their prepped pots, these never arrive sealed as their packaging is not fit for purpose and i had 2 occasions where the packaged chicken had also leaked contaminating my whole order - they did refund these, but it's just too much hassle
Half the posts here are fake accounts run by Musclefood (and their other pretend brands they run)

The meat is rubbish except for the expensive cuts and you get virtually none of that in a box that is basically all filler.

Is it better than Tesco rubber chicken? Barely, christ what isn't?

People are idiots who are motivated by their own self survival. Which is why that myth is so widespread that all fat is bad. Natural fat is okay. It's chemically refined and processed fats that are bad
