Tesco self-propelled, petrol lawnmower is a great addition to your garden maintenance artillery. It is powered by an easy to start OHV 4-stroke petrol engine that delivers 98.5cc. Resting on 4 wheels, the mower has a plant protection plate that keeps plants safe from the metal blades. It includes a generous 50-litre grass collection bag at the rear that reduces the amount of times that you have to stop in order to unload it. This mower features a safety switch that turns off the lawnmower if you accidentally release it whilst mowing. It also features a fold down handle and individual height adjustment features for added convenience.

Nearly pushed the button untill I read the first 4 or 5 reviews .
shame i was on the look out for a decent petrol mower that wasn't gonna break the bank
I got the non self propelled. I highly rate it
The reviews are so poor. How disappointing
Yeah, be a foolish purchase. The reviews for the self propelled models are so poor (one of them guy shows pic's of it failing after three cuts) personally feel be madness to waste 100plus pounds on this. .

Same here! Great shame really
If u can wait, Wilko normally sell their 98.5 cc mowers off around Sept time for £50 (not self propelled)
An amazing price for a Self Propelled one but the reviews seem to be removed now.

will get the 173cc for this price, need a new one as my argos one starting to struggle!
EDIT.. changed mind after reading the reviews... might fork out for a decent quality one this time, even though my argos jobby has lasted 10 years.

I've been using 98cc for 2 years with no issue
They are also criticized for not cutting deep enough even on the lowest setting as well as spare parts being non existent.

For the price you could justify the purchase if excepting the mower may only last a few years.
One of the reviews says that they are made by Cobra and another suggests the motor looks similar to the one on the Hyundai.
One review said spares were not available after the rip cord snapped so Tesco refunded 50% - a bit of a gamble.

Do I need to buy oil for this? or does it have everything I need to use it out of the box?
bought this a couple of weeks ago, had oil in it, but the self propelled cable was not connected. this was a royal pain to attach to the mower. seems ok so far, hope to get good use out of it....

my wilko one only lasted 2 summers
I also bought this a couple of weeks ago, but now suffering from buyers remorse having read the comments.

a few tips for temperamental petrol mowers.

Always try to use fresh petrol, do not try starting up on last years petrol (run until empty) start it up every now and then over the winter.
try a fuel additive to get your mower to start
Try not to tip over 4 stroke mowers (filter gets saturated with petrol and therefore difficult to start/keep on)
learn to disassemble the carburettor and give it a blast of carburettor cleaner, if it stops working the tiniest amount of dirt/sediment can prevent the mower from working.(if that doesnt work continue to clean Tank lines etc with cleaner to flush out the crap)

I've noticed that one of the pictures of the 98cc model has the label of DG450
A quick google of this reveals that it's a Cobra engine, although I can only find it in 135cc so it might just be a stock/promo picture that they've reused.
If it's self propelled does that mean I can just let it go
Utter crap. Spend a bit more and save the inevitable landfill space this will end up in.
You're better off getting an electronic one. This drinks a lot of fuel, and gives around 20 mpg around town.

Also needs servicing regularly. Electronic one doesn't.

Just my tuppence worth...
The 279 reviews (for the 98cc) average 4.2 out of 5?

I got one a couple of weeks ago and used twice so far. Needed oil before startup. Relatively quiet and plastic 'bodywork' makes me nervous for fragility...but it won't rust!
Seems like an excellent bargain to me, but we'll see in a few years time...!

I had a replacement rip cord fitted at a lawn mower repair centre for £1

Yes, if you tie it to a stake in the middle of the lawn, and tie the handle to the frame.
I got a similar petrol lawn mower from Tescos a few years ago -Power Force

Not self-propelled but heavily reduced to £24.50 from ~ £160 it was a no brainer.
Still going strong after years.
If your going to buy petrol they need a bit of tweaking and adjusting every so often. If you know nothing about engines or how to look after mechanical stuff your better off buying electric.
Personally i love it when they go on ebay, if they are listed as cuts out your just about guaranteed a decent mower which just needs tuned.
