The gap in the middle is nothing whatsoever to do with weight reduction. It's to relieve pressure longer rides. Stops you getting numbness in a part of the anatomy where you really don't want to be numb. Some saddles do this by leaving a gap, like this one, some have a dip in the middle.

On long rides, saddles like this are far more comfortable than the thickly padded spring types.

To relieve pressure on the area that makes contact with that region of a saddle. Or to allow you to take a narrow dump without having to stop, I suppose.

Never understood why people wanting to get & stay fit seek to have the lightest possible bike (nicked on sight), hard saddles & no mud guards. Proper club racers & aspiring yes but the 98% of other people nice comfortable sturdy sensible makes sense. Reviews suggest this saddle not need breaking in & comfortable which is great. Liked the red flat pedal deal yesterday too - that also puzzles me why go for fancy clogs & fittings when one is a very ordinary mortal?

Surprised by how heavy this saddle is for its RRP of £170! Most saddles around that price point are 150-200g probably. Worth it at the sale price though.

Yeah, it’s pretty huge as well. I bought one about 10 years ago for a similar price. It was fine for comfort, but one of the rails snapped after just a few summers. It puts me off buying another, even though I need to buy a saddle.
