Found 12th May 2015
Just a bit of fun really but if you want to "head into" space, now's your chance!
Join us in the adventure of space exploration and send your selfie to space aboard our 2016 LightSail mission! LightSail is designed to demonstrate solar sailing, using the momentum of sunlight to propel small spacecraft through space. Submit your selfie and be a part of the world's first citizen-funded solar sail adventure.

After you submit your selfie, share it on social media using #SelfieToSpace to see it appear on this page. Encourage your friends to submit their selfies and join the adventure.

You can also print off a Personalised Certificate Of Recognition.

Launches May 20th, 10:45am EDT

My daughter's loved the other freebies from The Planetary Society and know she's going to want to get involved in this-see you there!

Recently started calling our lass 'selfie'.

Be rude not to really! (_;)

this is out of this world

thanks for sharing

Thanks very much for sharing. Not really interested in adding a selfie, but I wasn't aware of this project and found it most interesting. Hot.

Might be a bit dangerous in case the photos get into evil extraterrestrial hands who then decide to have a vendetta against the people who sent their selfies. Hey! That's a great idea for a movie.

Cool freebie!

Cheers

If only people who take selfies could be blasted off into space.
I'd settle for blasting them a few 100 metres.

Brilliant, now you can send digitised images of yourself asking the aliens to come and probe you

Previously they allowed everyone to send their names to space

we share the same dream

Carl Sagan's solar sail. This selfie thing is in total contradiction with everything he believed about how the society should be.

"The Earth is a very small stage in a vast cosmic arena. Think of the endless cruelties visited by the inhabitants of one corner of this pixel on the scarcely distinguishable inhabitants of some other corner, how frequent their misunderstandings, how eager they are to kill one another, how fervent their hatreds. Think of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors so that, in glory and triumph, they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot.

Our posturings, our imagined self-importance, the delusion that we have some privileged position in the Universe, are challenged by this point of pale light. Our planet is a lonely speck in the great enveloping cosmic dark. In our obscurity, in all this vastness, there is no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves." - Pale blue dot- Carl Sagan
