These would go great with my new amp & CD player, the missus tells me we have these things called kids that might need xmas presents though. Heat anyway.

That's cheap. Do I need more headphones? Yep.

Open back.
Not ideal for the office.

These are more for home use. I've used HDs for nearly 10 years for movie and game use at home and always been very happy with them. They are open back but that has its advantages over closed back too.

Thanks. Amazon has price matched.

How does Argos return policy compare to Amazon? Are they fine with returning this if I don't like the sound?

Get it from Amazon, they have price matched. I just placed my order. Argos' return policy seems to want the product to be unsealed according to their FAQ

How do these compare to something like the Beyerdynamic DT990?

I have the DT 990 Pro and they are amazing, I can't compare them to these but they are likely to be similar perhaps a little worse, at a guess.

How would these compare to and old pair of HD 595s?

This or Hd598sr?

Would these be any good for studio use - recording vocals, creating drum tracks?

That's the question I've been trying to answer, are the 598's worth the extra £10?

I've found one youtube video (in Russian though).
The guy opens these 579s up and removes foam and says that's the only difference between 579s and 599s - they use the same speakers. Legit? Probably.

Well alongside my Philips Fidelio X2s for music, my Sennheiser Game Zero's for PC gaming I couldn't resist this offer and pulled the trigger. Did I need them no but they'll do for listening to TV/Movies in bed when I don't want to run the soundbar and sub.

Been hoping for a big price drop somewhere on the X2's!!
I wanted them a few years ago, but ended up going for a pair of DT 990 Pro's because of all the talk about there being a 'faulty batch' of X2's going around.. plus the Pro's were cheaper..
Love my Pro's, but it's a pain having to use an amp any time I want to use them..
Might go for these HD579's if I can't find anything else.. Was looking for 598's here but don't know if there's any difference...

Can't say from experience, but I'd imagine they would be very good for gaming.
From what I know of headphones very similar to these, being 'open back' they should be very good for positional sense and wide soundstage (sensing accurately where footsteps/noises are around you ect.. and the sense of being in a more open space..).
Possibly wouldn't be very quiet to those around you tho with the open back headset...

If you prefer your sound with more emphasis on bass and less soundstage with it leaking less to people around you, maybe you'd be better looking for 'closed back' headphones instead.

Excellent headphones, especially at this price. Amazon have price matched but not available until 5/12 so Argos is still your best place if you want them now! HOT

Got them for £64.99. Argos emailed a £5 off black friday voucher.

£64.99 at Amazon now.

Pull the foam sticker out from inside and you have HD 599's

a bit gutted i didn't see these sooner when i had the £5 argos voucher..(its expired now). still, i ordered yesterday to collect in-store. but i'll have to cycle 9 miles there.
