Hot! Great set of cans.

Please be reminded that this is Cs version which is DIFFERENT from SE version which you can easily find on ebay in many specs.

Cs version is newer, good reviews on amazon

Great deal... Alas another one I'll never get through 'committee'

Seems like these are exclusively to Amazon, gonna give it a go, glad I held off the HD 558 I posted a few days ago

They'll be a different experience to those. Less sound stage and a more "in head" experience. Probably better lower end though being closed.

Meh..... although it's a cracking price .... the only reason I'd get these over their open back brethren is for portable use with their low impedance... but I feel their are much better options out there with bluetooth and a more portable design.

Each to their own. Heat added.

Cs is the new version. Better reviews

Bluetooth as secondary you mean, as well as wired? I wouldn't buy these either, I'd rather the 558's for the open design. Or the 598 SE at this price

What would you say is a better option with bluetooth?

Close back 598 wow that's new

Folks, I just ordered Audio Technica ATH-M50X from Amazon for £109 (dropped by £20 last night(. Should I get these instead? Mainly listening from phone, noise leaking probably not an issue

I'll echo that question. Not having much luck so far - the Philips pair from Argos were really comfortable but sounded awful. The JBL pair from Sainsbury's sound decent but are really uncomfortable. I'm open to suggestions. Genuinely considering knocking the Bluetooth bit on the head and buying these instead - at least I know they'll fit, be comfortable, and sound good.

The HD5XX feel and look nicer. I prefer velour pads to sweaty vinyl, but both this and the ATH-M50x will give you hot ears over an hour or so. If you're under 25 I'd get the HD598 C, over 25 I'd get the ATH-M50X as it is brighter (more treble detail).

I would pick ATH M50 ANYTIME time over HD5XX. Sound quality much better, tho less comfy. Right choice.

Another thing to have in mind - even if HD598 are closed back, the sound leaks a bit. They lack pressure overhead and therefor not very portable as you can 'loose' them easily by turning your head. And then it all boils down to the source you'll be listening to. If you are going to listen them on your phone, might as well get either of those as you probably won't notice the difference in quality.

Right, bit the bullet and gone for them. Really please with the open back version of these, so going for the closed back as an alternative was a no-brainer. Especially at this price.

People thinking of getting an additional set to compliment their regular 598s are in for disappointment; it's a well known fact closed back just aren't as good as open back cans. Still, if you are wanting a more portable friendly version and have better sound isolation then these are still good value. I'd like to know how they compare to my Momentum's.

Yeah, I'm literally just getting them as a portable option. Don't want to be one of those people who use open back headphones in public.

Sound quality is a personal choice.

I did not like that of M50X. I like that of HD598 very much.

Anyone know how these would compare to Sennheiser HD380 Pro? Been happily using those for late night listening for past few years but one of the foam coverings has split 75% of the way around inside the cup plus the coating on the part that sits around your ear has badly worn. I've seen cheap replacements are available on evilbay but no idea how they'd compare to the original ones? Can the OEM replacements be purchased direct from Sennheiser? Although if they're expensive, think I'd sooner replace them with a new set of closed back around ear headphones.

Already have a pair of HD598SE, though not tried them out yet.

Thanks.

What's the age got to do with it here. Older people want better clarity,? I don't get it

got the regular 598s last year on black friday too. not as good a price as last year but still heat

Wooot, seriously? The usual hearing range of a human is 20 Hz to 20 kHz and you start loosing that with age. http://www.avsforum.com/content/type/61/id/169946/flags/LL

I remember we used to have the sound of mosquito set as a text notification on our phones in school as teachers couldn't hear that while everyone younger than 20 were hearing it fine

No I understand about hearing loss and age, but why get the 598 under 25 and M50X over 25? It's not like you become deaf at 26... The M50X are very bass orientated for a start.

I'll wait until the other fella replies, as I wouldn't make a decision between these two based on age. I would assume he meant that hd598 has better mids and highs, and larger frequency range overall.

I wouldn't either. Sound stage, imaging, comfort, sound signature... Not in order of importance.

sennheisers run rings around the m50x imo

It appears I'm not alone, completely unaware that Sennheiser had released a closed back version of the 598.
Although I'm not in the market for another pair of headphones I'd jump at the chance to audition them for an hour or two.
They seem to tick a lot of boxes, especially at this price.

I agree with you.

M50X is a lot bass which I do not like.

For me, HD598 sound better and more comfortable too.

Ahhh, was on the france deal. These are amazing. Not much to touch them at this price.

Would be all over them like a coach on youth team players given chance (too soon?). Alas, not the cash spare atm.

How would these compare to the Sennheiser Momentum 2 around ear headphones? I've seen there's an offer on those at the moment also.

Both Momentum 1 and 2 have good reviews. I tried them last year. I did not like them, both sound and comfortability.

I like AKG K702 and Sennheiser HD598.

You have to try them to find out which ones you prefer.

I doubt either would disappoint. Taking the price difference into consideration I'd go with the 598 CS for home listening. However if you're planning to use them outdoors the Momentum is clearly the way to go.

There's also a great deal on the Bowers & Wilkins P5 Series 2 - £139.96
That deal deserves some more heat.

Got these today and next to my pair of 598, they are:
- quite a bit heavier
- have a bit of a clamping force (I assume for sound isolation, as they are closed-back)
- have memory-foam pads, which feels a bit odd, initially

The sound is fantastic...obviously less of a soundstage than the open-backs, but the same level of clarity and detail. There's more bass, again due to closed-back design.

I'm just a bit unhappy with the clamping force and the increase in weight, as they make them quite a bit less comfortable than the 598...it was the comfort level of the 598 that was my main reason for selecting these.

Do they stay or do they go? Currently undecided...

how would these compare to the sennheiser rs165?
