These DO leak sound but... it's not like "sat next to speaker" levels. More like "sat near moron on bus with loud headphones" levels.

Basically they leak as much as crap, leaky headphones leak except it's intended.

You get zero sound isolation too...

However, all this makes what you're listening to sound MUCH better. If you don't need isolation and don't mind leaking a bit... open backed are far, far better for listening to. If you've not tried a (good) pair you don't know what you're missing. Mine are... pretty much on par, HD598SR, wouldn't go back to closed back unless I needed the isolation.
I got these for same price on Prime Day. Quality set of headphones and a step above anything else I've owned, sound and comfort-wise. Great warm, clear, balanced sound but a tad lacking in high-end treble and "air". I tend to boost the treble a bit, though this could be due to my ageing ears. They also can't handle too much power and the bass starts to noticeably rumble and distort if pushed.

Or maybe he was recommending your wife don closed-back while you rock out?!
Guys, if you don't mind open back headphones, get these OR akg 702 OR phidelio x2 for gaming/music all relatively same price highly recommend.

It sometimes goes on the blink. Using version one which only picks up sarcasm when a is included. Hoping to get an upgrade to version 2.1 sarcasm alerter via a forthcoming Black Friday Deal.

Noise cancelling headphones could work better in that situation

Fidelio X2 are great

They all are, just different. I think X2 has the best bass among them. Akg insane mids and sennheisers high frequencies, if im not mistaken.
Are these the same as the cream ones just a different colour? Looking to replace my broken DT990 pros

yes
If you want headphones built like a truck and sound as good, or better get the fidelio x2hr's

Seriously I've literally stepped on mine several times and dropped and they haven't broken.

Here's a comparison someone did

Considering sending the HD599's back and getting these instead. Decisions, decisions.

You could maybe order these and compare them to the HD599 after burn in and see which you prefer. Then send one back.
I have the cream version. They are very very comfortable, and fit easily over my ears. The sound quality in good. IMO, The only minor disadvantage is they don't fold flat or fold up in any way. Dead simple, no fiddling with tiny switches or waving your hands over them, just put them on and enjoy the music!
Ps And I've dropped them a few times
My old Senns died a few weeks ago after 10 years and I've been wondering what to replace them with. Ordered thanks!
I have the 598s and they are a very good headphone, and very easy to drive (no need for a headphone amp). Good clean bright sound with solid (rather than boomy) bass. Also very comfortable to wear. I image the 599s would be very similar.
Just received mine. Lovely!
I have the HD598SR headphones -- for some reason they used be around the £90 mark (Nov 2017-Oct 2018) but nowadays they are £149-£199 on Amazon. Happy with them, not sure how they compare to the HD599 posted here.

Decent price drop on the HD599's
Wow great price I have hd579 which are effectively the same, best set of cans I've owned.
