So temped. Checked ebay and it seems most keep keep their 660s
Haven't seen any reviews that rate these are as good as the cheaper 600/650/6XX.
Great price.

I bought them for £380 last year and they are worth every penny.

I also have hd580 , 58X and 650 , had and sold hd600.

This are the best of the 600 series , more detail better bass , bit bigger soundstage and great imaging.

It's a worthy upgrade from hd650 or 600.
You can pry my HD600 from my cold, dead ears.

That's an endorsement for Sennheiser, by the way. Mine have lasted for close to 20 years. Good deal!

This is worth a read - In depth review

HD580 v HD600 v HD650 - In depth review

Tyll Hertsens was a very respected reviewer

There's absolutely nothing wrong with the 660 S, but the 600v650 is personal choice and the 660 S was a move in a different direction

My 580 lead needs replacing. Had them for about 25 years. Just purchased one from amazon. What can I say. Treat yourself!

I have the Hd800S however, I prefer the HD700 for movies gaming and everyday use, the 800S are too much out of this world for everyday use

Really? It's ok but there are better. Gave it to my 11 year old and got an Orpheus.
I have or have had all the 5/6xx series headphones and that are all excellent in the price band they are in. But I own one headphone that I could never be without and that is the Shure SRH1840 it is perfect in every way for me.

Just curious, why not use the DAC in the IFI?

Different dacs for different uses. Ifi is a beast for laptops, dragonfly for phone and ipad. Ifi has the power and is awesome for movies due to 3d exansion and bass expansion

Oh right I thought the IFI had analogue inputs for a moment. Nevermind!

I use that on my Mac with HD 600's. It's an awesome bit of kit for the money.
Hey. Purchased these headphones expecting to be blown away by the reviews (especially Z review) but to be frankly honest i don't hear it. Don't get me wrong they sound nice with good separation and awareness but don't think they sound all that special in terms of fidelity and crispness, and instead too bright overwhelming my ears on the high notes with decent volume used.

testing done with a Audiolabs Q-Dac as well as Audioengine D1 dac using all FLAC tracks and left the headphones playing on mid volume for about 20hrs to break them in and to be honest am disappointed with the sound quality difference compared to my mediocre HD 518 which i have enjoyed for many years.

what am i missing!

I would watch Z's videos only for entertainment value
No, totally agree with that but I am going off the binaural microphone Demo he uploaded and they sounded amazing.

Now I have them just don’t feel that excitement I was hoping for. I don’t know to be honest, I like them but maybe not £309 like. Keep playing and see if my view changes over the next few day!

I found them unreliable. And he makes adjustments to the sound afterwards to make them sound "right" he says.

Anyway. What else are you using, and what are you powering them with?
im not 100% sure what i dislike or feel that i am missing and is why i thought i would get some ideas by commenting on here.
Using x2 DAC's with builtin headphone amps. please see my original post what i am using.

Completely missed the part listing your hardware... I've never heard the 518's but I've listened to these. I found them OK. Nothing too special. Looking at frequency graphs, the main difference is the 518 scoop high mids and have more high bass. That should be noticable no problem. You don't find them resolving details better? They certainly should be.

Never really been a headphone type of person and purchased the HD518 some years ago cause they were cheap but actually really enjoyed the nature of the sound they produced.

So finding these being a much newer generation as well as being top tier expected clarity on a level I hadn’t never experienced and that’s just not the case here.

If I rated the HD 518 a 5/10 on sound immersion the HD 660S are about a 7. I know neither of my DACs are the best but the Q DAC should push the 660 to there full potential in terms of fidelity but it’s not coming out on my end.

Maybe my expectations are a bit off track to what good sound actually sounds like but I’m left here wishing for more...! Lol.

What is it missing, did you expect more bass, or something like that? The thing with headphones, the tonal balance is very important. It's a personal thing. But you need to know what you want
