Just saw this on their outlet store and think it's a good price. We own the RS160 and the RS120 which this should be replacing. Never purchased from their outlet store before but hopefully just a damaged box or some minor cosmetic issue. On Amazon for 183.99.

Exceptional post I've been looking at wireless headphones this weekend with a budget of £200 or thereabouts. I've now ordered two of the RX220 for a gnats more than what I was expecting to pay for one pair! Very pleased... thanks brbruno

Was tempted to get the 220 but just watched a review & its massive both docking station & headset.

I'm tempted to take the plunge for the HD700. Just trying to find a comparison between this and the Philips Fidelio X2 online.

Holy christ, the RS220 for £104? Sold! I've heard plenty of prominent reviewers say they're of a similar calibre to the HD600 series, which is about as high praise as wireless headphones are capable of reaching. Even a wired headphone that good for this cheap is insane, never mind for wireless. Even if I don't like them as much as my current HD600s, the price can easily be recouped on eBay.

I've managed to resist buying new headphones for over a year. Today I relapsed.

Oh I hate this kind of dilemma without physically being able to test them. The X2 has impeccable reviews. They look better but most of the reviews Ive found rate them over the HD650.

Do they have the Sennheiser veil?

Trying to buy the 220, but can't find anywhere to enter the discount code. Any help please?

I know right :-(

I have been considering placing an order for the Philips Fidelio X2's until this deal came up and threw a spanner in the works!

The thing about headphones is that people's tastes are different so it's difficult to gauge which one is the 'better' option. I've read glowing reviews on both headphones but there's hardly anything comparing the two directly side-by-side.

Another pair of headphones I've been recommended are the V-Moda Crossfade M-100.

I don't know what to do!

There are no stores locally that sell these so I can't even try them out. Sennheiser's return policy is a bit awkward too so I want to avoid purchasing to try.

From confirmation email:" You may return your order within 30 days of reciept of the goods. Sennheiser guarantees that it will accept returned items and issue a full refund within this period. Please retain a copy of your delivery note supplied with your order for your records."

Whats awkward about that? I haven't heard these headphones - if there not better than my P7 I will send them back!

Interesting...

If you go to the terms of sale bit at the bottom it states you need to place a returns claim within 14 days of receipt and return costs are at the buyer's expense.

Thanks for your advice matey :-)

Also according to the same page I just read, the returns address is actually in Ireland. I'm assuming these products will be dispatched from Ireland rather than their headquarters based in Germany.

I have tried both and ended up with Fidelio X2. Note my preference is more towards "fun" sounding cans. If you prefer a flatter sound, I can't fault the HD700. Crisp and clear.

With Fidelio X2, it does not lose much details compared to HD700, while still retains the lower frequencies. The bass is controlled and does not creep into the mids and high. I could hear the smallest details in the background i.e. plucking of guitar, coughing in orchestra etc like I would with the HD700.

I could also tell where the singer is, and where the instruments are placed. HD700 is better in this department however, but not by much.

With a good amp, I could reduce the bass for different music types. If they were at their RRP, the Fidelio X2 imo wins hands down in terms of performance-price ratio.

At this price point however, it is just a matter of your sonic preference.

Seriously mate I can't thank you enough for your in-depth comparison. I have looked high and low for a direct comparison with no joy.

What if I told you the X2 was £185 brand new and obviously the HD700 are about £210, would your choice change in any way?

The music I listen to is more bass-orientated so I'm assuming the X2 would fit the bill more?

Also I believe the X2 performs as good with and without an amp whereas I believe the HD700 requires an amp to get the most out of them. Is this correct?

I appreciate all your help matey :-)

X2 on Amazon.it I guess. I pushed the button & went with the HD700. I read a lot of reviews stating an amp was best to get results from the HD700 but this deal was too good to miss & if they are a let down then ebay it is & I will buy the X2 after.
I have Philips Fidelio M2 bluetooth & after trying around 4 other brands some at twice the price they were the best so it wouldnt surprise me if the X2's were just as good as the higher end.

Thank you. Ordered.

Damn...now I'm really torn, don't know what to do!!!

I have been looking at prices of the HD700s online and they seem to be costing a bomb compared to the price of the refurb ones!

RS 220 or RS180? can anyone help me choose please

I just ordered the HD700, you've just corrupted me! I am also going to place an order for a pair of Fidelio X2's. Then I'll decide what to keep and what to return.

just as a pointer both the 220 n 180s are open backed so if you are wanting them for bedtime listening next to the other half be careful as they leak sound, the 160 and 170 are closed

sennheiser headphones tend to have a very flat frequency response to some will sound dull especially compared to grado headphones for example that are a little more forward in the high frequencies. personal choice in the end of how you like your music. senns make some fantastic headphones 650 have been the lead HP at their price point for many years, sure the 700d will be fantastic

sorry meant HD700

Bought the rs220 bargain price thanks

I've owned the HD598 before and sold them due to lack of bass. Are the HD700 similar to the HD598s? Damn am I going to regret this? Haha

And equally they let sound in. I bought the 220 to listen to music while the other half was watching her crappy soaps. Just ended up in a volume war as we each tried to drown out the sound of the other.

I've not heard the hd700 I moved on from the 650s a few years back, never really got on with them, great headphone very clear but music didn't excite moved on to denon akg and grado tend to get the most use now.

Heat,love rs220!
