All homes and businesses realise the need to protect valuables, but what about insurance documents, wills, passports and family photographs--just to mention a few? Whether these documents are paper, or on CD, DVD, Hard Drive or memory stick, they can now be protected from the perils of theft and fire with a Fire-Safe chest from Sentry Safe.

This fire-safe chest has proven fire protection for 1/2 hour up to 843°C, independently tested by UL (Underwriters Laboratories). The large internal capacity accomodates A4 documents lying flat. The chest comes with two privacy keys and a convenient carrying handle.

If you lose your keys, Sentry Safe will do all it can to help you back in as quicklyly as possible (security checks are required). In the unfortunate occurance of a fire, Sentry Safe will replace your damaged unit free of charge under the lifetime after-fire guarantee.

Tesco Direct is quite high atm on TopCashback

I bought mine from a Tesco store, down from 50 to £30. Very occasionally they have them at Lidl or Aldi (not seen for a while)

be careful to buy the one that's "media safe", the standard ones are only good for paper and won't protect CDs, DVDs and tapes.

Thanks

Is it me or these two statements contradict each other?

"they can now be protected from the perils of theft "

"The chest comes with two privacy keys and a convenient carrying handle."

How can it be protected from theft if it has a convenient carrying handle? Should this not be like wall mounted through the inside or something like that ?

It is a fire-safe, it isn't intended to provide protection against theft, as you'll note in the description it says "privacy key lock", ie it is not a security lock, so even if you secured it to something it would still be trivial to open and remove the contents.

Amazon's item is now 2-4 weeks delivery. Here's a direct link that still brings up the amazon item:-

Why has this been expired?

You can still order it amazon.co.uk/gp/…OLE

Yeah still available just out of stock.

Fire proof for half an hour, how long does a typical house fire last?

Seems a waste of time if that is the case.

Not really, say the safe is in your bedroom and the first starts in the kitchen, the fire may be out before it gets to the bedroom, its better then all your important stuff burning

Well if the fire is out before it gets to the bedroom my stuff would be safe anyway.

That's a very good point, while this suggests you can store media in it in Amazon's description, they call it a document safe, and according to the Sentry website this is NOT suitable for storing plastic media.
