Services Day at Alton Towers 16th-17th March.

Posted 9th Jan
This year Alton Towers are having 2 services days on 16th and 17th March.

The theme park will be closed to the main public and be only available to those with a Defence Discount Service and Blue Light card member with no opportunity to purchase tickets on the day.

Tickets are £18.50 for adults and £17.50 for children (3-11 years, under 3's get in free)

Members can also get free parking which is normally £6 per car.

The link does not take you to the discount page itself, Blue Light and Defence Privilege card holders will be able to access that page.
Community Updates
These tickets can only be purchased through the Blue Light Card or Defence Discount apps/websites with a valid login.

Each cardholder can purchase up to 12 tickets, it is perfectly OK and encouraged for family and friends to go along with the discount cardholder (not that they ever check to see if you have a card on you anyway).

The reason this is such an amazing deal, is not so much the price, but the fact that the park is no-where near as busy as the public days. The popular rides have wait times around 15mins-30mins, others are about 10mins-15mins max.

When you get to late afternoon, most rides you can just walk onto without queueing. Last time I went, I could just stay on the ride and go round again!! (they actually made us get off, stand behind the barrier and then get back on, for health & safety).

Also, parking is free.

It’s a disgrace that so many under 3s are in the army but great that they get discounts

I’m a blue light card holder- where do I go to on that link?
I’m guessing you can’t take someone who doesn’t work for the nhs etc with you as a guest?
Isn't it pretty much half price all the time with vouchers on virtually everything.

Yes the card holders can take guests but have to be booked together.

I've copied and pasted this from the site:

'Your ticket will give you access to the Theme Park from 10am on your selected date. Please ensure that one member of your party has a valid service related ID, Blue Light Card or Defence Privilege Card to present on the day'
Who pays full price anyway? There are always buy one get free voucher for these ridiculously priced theme parks
Isnt full price over £50 each now? So even if you do get bogof offers, and with the carpark saving of £6, you're still saving nearly £20 (based on 2 adults). And the park will probably be quieter..
Only advantage I see from this deal is park is closed for GENERAL PUBLIC & hence it will be possibly quite than normal days. But, for ticket if you search around you will get for £20 any day of the year!!! Enjoy guys
Was going to go last year but the snow made them cancel it (could then use the ticket on any other day of the season). Any idea what crowds are like? I know this usually sells out but I'm not sure if that have the park at full capacity or not.
Has anyone been on these service days? Is it any quieter than normal?

Why? Are you jealous of high tax payers that keep hospitals open?

Hi just wondering if anyone has been and is it quieter? Have given Alton towers a miss for past few years so might give it a try again but not if it’s the usual busy that I recall. Thank you.
What’s a Blue Light car member ? Is that police, fire service, paramedics, nurses etc ?!
It's not about half price it's about extra short lines

But Alton Towers isn't in America?
Nice deal!
Shame about the comments..
Just a heads up. The new 'ride' for 2019 appears to be a Dungeon (in the same vein as London Dungeons) which seems very likely cost extra money. Even worse, they replaced an existing ride for it (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) and it seems like it will have a ride that should be available to all guests inside it (a mini drop tower).

I suspect some of the motivation behind sneaking in a paid attraction in the park is so that they can make more money from people who buy discounted tickets.

Yes you can, you can order 12 tickets for your family and friends to go along - as long as you are there with your card.
Not that they ever ask to see your card anyway.

You just print-out the tickets and scan them on the automatic turnstyle entrance. Nobody asks for the card.

Yeah but these services days have only a third of the people in the park. Most wait times for rides are about 10mins, the longest being about 30mins. Around 3/4pm, you can just walk on to rides - no queues.

Who rings 0871 numbers? High cost numbers. They do not care about "customers".
They do not want calls.
Do they do the same at other parks eg Legoland, does anyone know?

It's a special line reserved for bankers, high earners, footballers and last but not least YOU !
Alton Towers is a business, and they are perfectly entitled to make this offer if they so wish, they don't have to answer to anyone. If they wanted to offer a student discount weekend, I couldn't go, but it wouldn't make me bitter and shout and play the inequality card!!
I'll answer you instead of joining the keyboard warriors. I've never been on one of these days, but last year was pretty quiet anyway as the papers wont stop bringing up the Smiler incident... usually around the start of the season. There is a chance that these days could actually be busier!!

The only thing I'd say is that due to the local landscape, the weather at that time of year can be awful, we went in the start of the season a couple of years ago, it was sunny pretty much up to the park, but then freezing and snowing all day, still had a good day

Thank you for your reply. I think I'm going to attend, just don't fancy queuing all day.

Theres an app you can download to see the waiting times, you could always have a look on the 16th and see what the times are, then use that to see if its worth going on the 17th? Not foolproof obviously but it may help to sway you?

You don't even need the app, ridetimes.co.uk/ lists the Alton Towers queue times.

However I would not want to say for certain the website/app will be working on services day as it is before the main season starts, I expect it will work, but don't count on it!
Jeez. Did I miss something? When did HUKD turn into a battle of Corbynism vs Other...

Either way. Thanks OP for posting.

I was bored and had some down time! But, I do object to promotions that are not open to all as I believe everyone should be treated equally and pay the same price and have the same deal whatever their gender or job.

Yes - I have been to three Alton Towers Service Days and two Thorpe Park days.

Queues for popular rides are about 20-30mins max during peak times.
Other rides are about 5-10mins.

Around 3/4pm, you can walk straight on to any ride it's that quiet.

Here is a pic I took at Thorpe Park services day 2018.
This was the queue for SWARM about 2 hours before the park closed:

A Blue Light Card holder is someone who is, or was, a member of the emergency services - and has signed up for the scheme.
The Defence Discount Card is the same for Armed Forces & thier partners, Veterans & Veterans Widows.
