Serviio: Free DLNA Media Server Streamer (Streams content from your computer to your smart TV, FreeView Box etc)
I discovered this great free DLNA media server a few weeks back and it works great with my Panasonic Smart TV.
Its really easy to use and all my media files be it full HD .mkv, .mp4, avi, .meg, .mp3 etc play flawlessly!
Simply download and install it and then select what folder(s) on your computer you want to make available to your network and thats it. I set it up in under 5mins!
I'm sure many are already aware of this program but I was a little late to the party! Hopefully others will find it as useful as I do.

I use it over wifi and it is marvelous.
What's more, there is a great support network Here
from experience I can say...disable your firewall and antivirus and try again...
I take it this has to be on any pc,lappy that shares not only my server?
Try this
I can get to homesever via web no probs just internal tv's ans ps3's
Why??.........
Dont you NEED a Server running 24/7???
Where as this is the BEST. use DLNA When you ACTAULLY NEED it
if doing that disconnect internet too
Just enable media sharing and you are good to go
With regard to Plex, never got this to work properly with my home AV equipment and Serviio was the only product to encode subtitles on the fly with any of my kit. Plex just could not do it - but to be fair - that was a year or so ago.
I did try but my tv just wouldnt see my pc, spent some time trying to troubleshoot but gave up in the end.
With serviio it works fine every time.
As a test i put my O2 router in place for a hour and everything worked as it did so this shows where the issues is.
Whats the PS3 Media Server??
I tried Plex but it kept crashing and others like Tversity which held its own for a long time and PSmedia server which wasn't reliable enough as a DLNA server for me.
Love Serviio !!
plus there's a 15 day trial which lets you stream to the official app (serviiGo I think) over the net via mobile and wifi
it reverts back to the standard version after this trial. I cant remember how much you pay to make it stream over your mobile network.
You'll struggle with 1080p streaming in my experience
Jeez calm down. You don't need a server running 24/7 for Plex. You can just turn on any computer that hosts this, stream the content, then power down. Just like Serviio.
As others have said Plex has more features.
Yes! My Panasonic plays these files that are stored on my Windows Home Server. I haven't got any software installed. Just built in DLNA.
Has anyone found a way to view over network. (petty poor if you have store on a SD card) even put a usb in side and don't work, using `play to` from pc is a no no.
