I discovered this great free DLNA media server a few weeks back and it works great with my Panasonic Smart TV.

Its really easy to use and all my media files be it full HD .mkv, .mp4, avi, .meg, .mp3 etc play flawlessly!

Simply download and install it and then select what folder(s) on your computer you want to make available to your network and thats it. I set it up in under 5mins!

I'm sure many are already aware of this program but I was a little late to the party! Hopefully others will find it as useful as I do.

Does this work via your home network or do you need one of the hardware add ons for the TV for it to work?

It works via your home network.
I use it over wifi and it is marvelous.
What's more, there is a great support network Here

Can't find when searching on my Samsung Smart TV...

Didn't work last time I tried with my panny however may decide to give it another go

I've used it for quite some time. It's great. I stream lots of stuff from my PC to my Samsung Smart TV

Been using this for 5+ years...good dlna streaming for Sony Bravia...there are many alternative too...

from experience I can say...disable your firewall and antivirus and try again...

Plex is the best.

this is OK but as another comment says Plex is best, and if your not bothered about the latest features straight away its completely free while serviio offers basic features free and you have to pay for meta data etc

Been using this for a while with my Bravia tv, but for some reason it keeps losing connection whilst streaming. I've set my MacBook to not sleep at all, yet it still seems to do it

will give this ago.

Will this or plex work with BT Homehub 5 as I had it all working by giving tv's access vis windows media and everything worked till i Git HH5.

I take it this has to be on any pc,lappy that shares not only my server?

Try this

What do you loose when it reverts to the free edition after the 15 days Pro runs out?

Thsnks for the link, it's internal where it stops and it's a common problem with HH5

I can get to homesever via web no probs just internal tv's ans ps3's

Plex is the best.

Why??.........

Dont you NEED a Server running 24/7???

Where as this is the BEST. use DLNA When you ACTAULLY NEED it

I'll give it a try, doubt it'll be as good as PS3 Media Server

if doing that disconnect internet too

It works fine, but it's always been free, I used it for about 2 years

I'm using this and it's nice and lightweight. I used to use Plex until they broke Xbox360 transcoding months ago. There's been no response from the devs about the issue at all...

Hang on doesn't the panasonic tvplay those files anyway? My AS500 does

Just enable media sharing and you are good to go

isnt Skifta the same thing?

I've been using the paid version of this software for many years now - its a great product and has excellent support.

With regard to Plex, never got this to work properly with my home AV equipment and Serviio was the only product to encode subtitles on the fly with any of my kit. Plex just could not do it - but to be fair - that was a year or so ago.

You can get the app for Synology Nas drives too.

I did try but my tv just wouldnt see my pc, spent some time trying to troubleshoot but gave up in the end.
With serviio it works fine every time.

I've never had to use these media servers just open win media player and give access to tv,ps3 etc and it's worked for years till getting the homehub5.

As a test i put my O2 router in place for a hour and everything worked as it did so this shows where the issues is.

Whats the PS3 Media Server??

I've had this running from a Core 2 Duo laptop for about 2 months and I can definitely say its the best I've used !!
I tried Plex but it kept crashing and others like Tversity which held its own for a long time and PSmedia server which wasn't reliable enough as a DLNA server for me.
Love Serviio !!
plus there's a 15 day trial which lets you stream to the official app (serviiGo I think) over the net via mobile and wifi
it reverts back to the standard version after this trial. I cant remember how much you pay to make it stream over your mobile network.

Been using this for around 18 months I reckon. Sometimes it used to be a bit fiddly as the TV would see it as a new source each time and the TV had a preset limit to the number of sources it would let you have recognised. But, other than that, perfect.

You'll struggle with 1080p streaming in my experience

will this work with xbox one//

Jeez calm down. You don't need a server running 24/7 for Plex. You can just turn on any computer that hosts this, stream the content, then power down. Just like Serviio.

As others have said Plex has more features.

Yes! My Panasonic plays these files that are stored on my Windows Home Server. I haven't got any software installed. Just built in DLNA.

Been using this for a few years now. Great for Sony TV's that are a bit temperamental with some files via usb and streaming. Sony products hate MKV files but with Serviio they work fine!!

Looked good but there was no way that I could get my Android TV box to see the server at all.

Use playon app and media server free version for android or ipad

i have used serviio but switched to plex. it has much better transcoding support where serviio struggled with file encoding through my humax box, yet plex just works. its also more feature rich and as it sideloads to the nowtv box, no competition really. I did like serviio though, if it works for your setup then you can't gripe much given the price.

Slightly of topic but I have a pansonic 3d camera and only way to view the pics is mini hdmi into the Sony tv.

Has anyone found a way to view over network. (petty poor if you have store on a SD card) even put a usb in side and don't work, using `play to` from pc is a no no.

used this for long time , just streaming films to watchthrough xbox.. never had any problems .. and it's free !!

Iv been using Plex for a few years and is great but will give this a try.
