Unless this product comes with some degree of pre-paid subscription you'd be much better off buying the 160GB Thomson DTR which comes with a 1 months free Setanta, 1 months free Top TV Anytime and 1 months free Picturebox. Priced £79.99 from the likes of Argos, Tesco etc...

Original Poster

Fixed now & title amended

One good thing to know for anyone looking to buy one of these boxes who is in a poor reception area. My TV tech told me that these little Sagems are best of the lot for making a good picture out of a weak signal.

Sagem stopped broadcasting OADs early last year. There's a forum here which I'm a member of, which details a few of the many bugs with Sagem firmware, and the company has done nothing to address the issues.

I have a PVR6240 and it barely hangs together. Sagem's response to the concerns of the customers was to stop broadcasting fixes.

To me, Argos are trying to shift these units. If anyone's still listening, on April 9th this year these units were £199.99. See this post for info.

The Thomson also comes with 1 months free Setanta. Like the Sagem, the firmware is a bit flakey but they are at least still releasing firmware. Trick play (ff/rw through recordings) is the worst offender but on the whole I would recommend the Thomson over the Sagem, especially on price.
