Cheers all, been after a trolley jack after my scissor one snapped on my Cliosport

Ordered and Heat added.
Edited by: "Rona7do" 12th Nov

Had one of these for years. Great trolley Jack.
Also got one of these which is £1.00 cheaper than the SGS and well worth it to protect the underneath of your car from scratching it.
Rubber Jacking Pad

I bought one around 6 months ago. First time I used it it wouldn't work - turns out it had no oil in it... Filled it and bled it and works well enough.
It's a Trolley Jack though, nothing special about it

It doesn't feel solid enough and I wouldn't say it's particularly low profile either; it doesn't even fit under my stock height Lexus IS250, I have to drive onto wood just to get it under. You're trusting your life with it so I would personally give this a miss and buy something better.

Trusting your life with any trolley jack is a very very bad idea. Unless you can work on the vehicle without getting underneath, jacks should be used only to raise the car so you can put axel stands under, and as back up incase one of those fails. Never ever trust a jack with your life.

Yes, terrifying to think anyone would work under a car only supported on a jack.

Good 2 Ton Low Entry Trolley Jack & Axle Stands £50.69 ON OFFER @ sgs-engineering.com

The SGS jacks and stands are the same as Halfords just a different colour. The quality of this jack is ok for the price, the one I bought struggles getting a Mercedes CLK high enough to put the axles stands under it however it seems to cope with a Civic ok. I bough the jack for £21 and the axle stands for £15 from Halfords on sale.

When using a trolley jack at the rear of a car where does it go? It cant be the same bit the car jack goes as it would flatten the ridge at the indicated bit at the side?

Seems that lifting range is less than the axle stand max height -

Jack lifting range = 89mm to 359mm
4 Ton ratchet axles stands lifting range = 278mm to 420mm

So you wont ever get to the full height for the stands with this jack [unless you use a block of wood or similar to extend the lifting range]. Still a hot price though.

I have this exact set from sgs engineering. I've had them now for around 4 years and I'm still alive! Excellent product at a very good price, well built and will last a long time!

I've got this jack - … I've got this jack - https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00521RGXG/ref=s9_acsd_top_hd_bw_b5bbVod_c_x_w?pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_s=merchandised-search-3&pf_rd_r=720F5EVE1EQD0DW58D9H&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=fe67b973-aa8c-5e28-a251-69692830ecc9&pf_rd_i=5136329031Which looks mostly identical.Build quality and speed etc seems fine but it doesn't lift the car high enough for my jack-stands. I'm not sure on the details of my jackstands but they're pretty 'standard' ones. Where it is quite small it needs a ton of movement to raise the car and even at it's highest I still can't squeeze my jackstands underneath. I'd avoid personally and go for a 'good one', slightly larger one that'd raise the car higher. It had no problem getting under my mx5 though so the 'low entry' aspect is good!

Then again, the jackstands here state they're lower than the maximum lift range of the jack, might be worth a try. Just my 2 cents

UPDATE - Sent in the trimmer and they sent it back claiming its been repaired after charging me for the postage. Anyway the trimmer still has the same fault, so I emailed back with a video evidence, they just ignore me now. Raised a PayPal claim, avoid using these thieving SGS sods.

I bought the 5in1 tool (similar to this) from SGS via the eBay, came with 3 years warranty, used it for the first time this weekend. Within 20mins of use the bush blade came loose despite the locking nut being well tighten. Powered off the unit to tighten the locking nut and now the pull cord is way too stiff to extract, doesnt even get to point of engine cranking over.

I've raised a ticket with them, been advised to send pictures of bush blade etc. Let see what they come back with, if not to my satisfaction then I will be pursuing them via Paypal for a full refund.

Bought it 2 summers ago, never gets used over winter but still fires up after a couple of goes each Summer, however the line holder snapped on mine sent an email to see if they would replace it, didn't even get a response. Decent product poor service.

Fair enough - we'll have to agree to disagree.

although it was very similar to Screwfix one , SGS one had several external visibal differences in the trigger system , nuts and bolts, better harness , so I assume the engine could have had differences. pros who use branded brush cutter, were commenting on how good it was.

With the SGS one being so much lighter would you then assume that the generic ebay one was made of heavier steel? And probably, then, a better deal, as the biggest problem with these items is that they are often thin a flimsy.

Or you just got unlucky with the screwfix one.

I needed one asap, so I bought from Screwfix, knowing that they had bad reviews, waste of time, but Screwfix are good with return so figured no risk.

Am in complete agreement that an electric trimmer should no doubt do the job I'm asking of it, however, the location of the task prohibits use of electric. Our allotment is where this will spend most of its time where there is no electric supply. I suppose I could have looked at the petrol generator route to allow use of electric tools but the outlay was far in excess of £67 unless buying something second or third hand. So I'll give this a whirl and if it makes it to the end of the warranty period, for £35 quid a year I'm happy.

Thanks for the other reviews. Think I give it a miss. Looks similar to this one

What have you had previously to compare it too?

What does he need to have had previously. He's just said that its drawers are smooth and it's solidly built.

As it happens I can confirm that. I've had one for a couple of years and use it most weekends and it's still in perfect condition. In case it makes a difference, I had a Snap-On box ( similar size ) for about 10 years back when I worked in the trade. From memory it cost me about 5 times as much but, although it was an excellent box, it was not 5 times better than the SGS offering. The one thing that Snap-On boxes have that the SGS one doesn't is a reputation, which means that when you sell your box, you'll get a damn good price for it.

Anyway, I would wholeheartedly recommend the SGS box on both price and quality.

I got mine - super quick delivery in about 18 hours from order. Very impressed

But there are problems which I've emailed them about and I am awaiting response:

[*]Basically it looks like it has been dropped at some point and on signing for delivery I didn’t notice the slight damage to box. There is quite a bend in the back panel that I may or may not be able to push out - although it will never be straight. But it is at a place that will nearly always be up against a wall so not a massive issue, just annoying

[*]All but one of the drawers run very nice but mine looked scuffed in places. When I emailed them about the one drawer it wouldn't open and close properly. Since then I found the bit of bit of metal that was stopping it and fixed the drawer.

These are dents or scuffs that I imagine would appear over time but I would have preferred to be the one making them. I put in the email to them the faulty drawer was the game changer and asked about exchange but since I’ve fixed that I will probably keep the one I have but I am awaiting response before telling them that in case they knock a couple of quid off (ya never know).

If you get a non-dropped one then they are well worth the money. If all they have in stock in damaged / returns then it’s a bit misleading. Right now I’m going on the assumption I was just unlucky.
