I completely disagree...introducing Shakespeare at such a young age would no doubt help kids when they have to study the original texts at GCSE level and beyond!

Shakespeare walks into a pub, The landlord says, "Get out - you're bard!"

I don't think thats fair - I loathed Shakespeare at school, now I think he's the greatest person who ever lived.

It took me a *lot* of effort to 'get' him, and when I finally did it changed my world.

I was unusual (I think) in that I continued after I'd left school, just because I thought I ought to on account of his Godlike reputation - I figured I must be wrong in thinking him boring, and the light would eventually shine if I persevered - I was, and it did.

Many people will give up as soon as they are allowed, and this easier introduction may help some over the first hurdle of his world(s) and stories so they can move on later to the real stuff and have their mind blown by his extraordinary language and ideas.

Be not afeard. The isle is full of noises,
Sounds, and sweet airs, that give delight, and hurt not.
Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices,
That if I then had waked after long sleep
Will make me sleep again; and then in dreaming
The clouds methought would open and show riches
Ready to drop upon me, that when I waked
I cried to dream again.

Heat added, daughter is 6 and bought her a load of books for xmas and she is an amazing reader for her age she is going to LUUUUUURVE these. Thanks OP

Would you say these are books which are child friendly - even in the revised form? I only read a couple of them but always thought of them as adult themed. May be I'm wrong?

Interested in buying them but would appreciate feedback from someone who has them already.

Read the amazon reviews, they talk about things like that and how suitable they are for kids.
