the v and w series have stoped production on jan 6th 2009 and sony are prioritizing sony centeres i think there will be one last batch as the new sony bravia 3 series will be out on aprill
and be around £1000 and will slowly drop in price

due to the high volume of sales over christmas alot of stores were caught short as they dint want to over stock in this credit crunch so stores with the tv can ask silly prices and play a cat and mouse game as by the end of march there will be a few genuine bargans as they start to panic if they have any old stock but thats a big iff

Model is a bit old (2006). Energy consumption a bit high 168W/0.9W. Good price but not exceptional.

How does that compare to todays Energy consumption.

e.g. how much would this cost per hour against todays LCDs per hour

Must resist this! Also managed to resist buying the Sony for £299!

As Smugla says there could well be some price drops come March time..

Firstly, the credit crunch. TV manufacturer's have a stockpile of oldish sets that aren't selling too well. They need to shift these to make way for newer technology sets or be left behind.

Secondly, a number of major LCD manufacturer's have recently been 'done' for operating price fixing cartels. The courts have told them to stop this..if they comply then prices will surely fall.

168w is 0.168kw your leccy is billed in kwh and varies by person to person. mine is offpeak 4.7p per kwh. so in an hour, the telly is usin less than a penny (0.78) per hour.

compared to let's say the new Panasonic Viera TC-37LZ800 which uses 147.16w, I'd save 0.09 of a penny every hour.

obviously leccy rates are higher during the day etc, but i'd mainly use it at night. so you'd have to have the panny on for 10 hours to save 1pence of electricity compared to the toshiba.

Electric rates are the same all the time, there usually 2 tiers use x amount on tier 1 within a time period and move onto the cheaper tier 2. This is a large misconception by many people.

Electric is *only* cheaper at night on Economy 7 tariffs which runs from 12 midnight to around 6 am only good for storage heaters etc. If don't know about Economy 7 then you arn't on it, the downside to economy 7 is the fact that whilst this 12 -6 electric is often half price the average daytime electric is 30% higher. So it is not a good option for many people.

:-D I've gone for this cos I'm fed up of looking around, this will do me nicely.

Thanks OP. Got the RAC code to work to so all in all I haven't seen cheeper and it is a goodish spec fopr the dosh. CHEERS:santa:

£369.99 now

Thats just typical of play.com to move the price around!
I was tempted by this but now play have shifted the price I think not.
