Sharp have never been a great make for TV's - anyone own one and think it's good?

nice find

Great price but I don't think Sharp make great TVs these days if I remember correctly

A bedroom/kids room TV me thinks!

They're ok but nowhere as good as Sony or Panasonic. For £250 you can't expect the best of the best.

Not in Bolton store

Sharp made the screens for sony up until a couple of years ago and was far better than sonys own attempt!

Sharp were the industry leader for LCD tv's in the mid noughties. My Sharp LC46 was superb until the backlights aged slightly differently and there was a notable demarcation line between the two backlight panels. ( It was years old at that point and had very heavy use). It's still going strong and hasn't altered further but for me once i'd seen it I couldn't unsee it.

£250 is the cheapest this has been, it's usually £279.99 from Sainsbury's - If you have a Richer Sounds close by I'd get them to price match and buy the 5yr warranty for an extra £25.

Heated btw

Still £279.99 online @Sainsbury's.

Sharp still are an industry leader, but dont import their best models to the UK often. To compete with the Koreans, Sharp Tv sets with a model number of less than 600 are simply rebadged Turkish Vestels. This makes them cheap. Im afraid this is no better than a Technika/Finlux/Bush/Toshiba......

You'd be surprised by the amount of manufacturers who put Sharp LCD panels in their sets. Sharps Aquos range is superb and often finishes just behind the Samsungs. This set is no Aquos Quattron hence the price!

I had a 42" Sharp before I upgraded, the pictures AND sound were brilliant. Good buy,,,

wow great deal TY OP

Yes & it's very good. They are a leading maker. Their £900 60" is fab & got a great review AVForums. I don't know about this one tho it uses more power than the 60" but I believe that one is a class leader.

Brilliant for the price

Meh, bit of a rubbish tv, but for the price it's not bad I guess.

40 inch TV in the kid's bedroom!

Good luck getting your kids to sleep. Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder and glasses here we come.

great price, heat from me

Can someone who is knowledgeable explain to me who Vestel are? Every thread someone will say this has a vestel screen or something like that. People say some tv's are just re badged vestels.

Are Vestels good or bad? How do you know if it is a vestel?

Sorry i have no idea what i'm talking about but if someone could help me out i'd be grateful.

My Aquos 30" was fantastic until it went to the great tv scrapyard in the sky 3 years ago, so I certainly wouldn't disregard it because of the brand. In any case £250 is HOT for any 40" lcd - if your budget is £250 you really can't go wrong.

By the way, I drive a Kia Carens. Do I love my car? No. Would I choose a Kia? No. Has it gone wrong in the 4 years + that I've had it? No. I bought it because it was £9,000 brand new when a comparable 7-seater from a "better" manufacturer was over £15,000

Look at amazon it is cheaperrrrrr.

No it's not. Link?

if its the same one in sainsburys that i saw it has pvr, but only advertised on Sharps website. i wanted this, but was out of stock at my store, already bought Polaroid from Asda. pity i wanted this one.

For the 'its rubbish' folks, want to post a link to a better 40inch LCD at £250?

Cannot find one myself hence voted hot but am open to suggestions......

Sharp is the popular choice in Japan and USA made in Japan

To be clear most LCD tellies are pretty ok nowadays and Sharp is an excellent brand. Sadly this is not a 'proper' Sharp and is only of mediocre picture and build quality.

Still a 40" LCD for £250 is pretty good and many people would be quite happy. I picked up a cheap Sony last year, not a brand I have much time for and it has terrible uneven back lighting but I don't use it as my main screen and it looks attractive.

Toshiba are fine, if they make their own stuff, but they have also started to rebadge crap Vestel stuff.

The Sharp Elite range is apparently better than the Pioneer Kuro, they must be doing something right

This was in Sainsbury Walthamstow at £189.00.
they only had 3 so i did'nt bother posting... may still be there!

this TV is and has been for the last couple of weeks £229.95 at richer sounds. richersounds.com/pro…340. was tempted to buy as a second TV
