Sharp TV's are made under license by Turkish company Vestel nowadays...

as long as you are expecting the same quality of TV along the lines of bush, Technika, Polaroid etc..then these are fine but just don't be under the illusion that a Sharp TV is a premium Japanese brand anymore...

Lol that's funny

I bought one of these Sharp TVs a few years back (still Turkish I guess), the quality is OK, nothing special. But, they are absolutely bulletproof - that same TV is now in my mancave/xbox room, still going. It's been stand mounted, wall mounted, knocked, dropped and moved house - not a scratch. Can't say the same for my top of the range 2 year old plasma unfortunately.

Great thanks guys x

Sharp used to manufacture their own large screen TV's up until a few months ago when they offloaded their entire European TV manufacturing business to UMC.

As far as I know their current smaller TV's (55" and below) are made by a mixture of our friends in Turkey - Vestel, UMC and by a Chinese manufacturer.

yea, it will go down well with a four pack of fosters

I don't think tesco do the 5 year guarantee on this any longer

If you poke yourself in both eyes with a sharp stick screen quality won't matter any more so saving yourself a fortune in the long run !

Believe it or not My mate purchased a sharp 55" I think from the Argos deal a few months back it says on the back Made in Japan , i didn't believe it until he showed me where the TV actually says made in Japan

If sharp aren't making TV's anymore why were they boasting about having the first THX certified 4k TV?

I have a sharp Aquos 46 inch the one has has 4 colour pixels, had it for nearly 4 years and the picture is excellent. The smart features are rubbish but I think the model may have been a year or 2 old before I bought it.

they make TVs for Japan,Asia and I believe Australia and America.
only European models are "fake" and not made by Sharp..
Also I think their high end models are still made by Sharp themselves or used to be until recently.

That Sharp Aquos model you have with 4 colour pixels was genuine midel made by Sharp and a great TV,you can't even compare it to this rebranded rubbish made by Vestel or UMC..

My parents were after a new TV and commented on mine, its a good job I didn't tell them to go buy a Sharp then!

So who is left who is genuine? Sony, Samsung, Panasonic? what about LG?

It says Made in Poland on the back

My 5 month old LC60LE651K says made in Japan on the rear but the manual says printed in Poland as does the box so I would take the Japan touch with a pinch of salt. Sharp have have or did have a factory in Poland manufacturing TV's which I believe is now run by UMC, manufacturing TV for sharp under license.

You can still buy a proper Sharp made TV, anything 60inch or over is Sharp made including the 50 inch LE651/LE751 models.

Sony,Samsung and LG are legit.
Panasonic's cheaper models are not.but their more expensive middle range and high end ones are real Panasonic.

Avoid JVC,Toshiba,Sanyo,Hitachi,Sharp,Hyundai,
Daewoo,Akai as almost all their models in UK and Rest of Europe are rebranded **** not made by them.
Also as I said avoid Low end cheaper Panasonics.I think any model with Ain model number is rebranded and made by Vestel.

all Panasonic Plasmas (if you could still find them) are genuine even the cheapest models.

Are thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time

only 2 factories in the world make this size of screen samsung in korea and sharp in japan. all japenese built tvs have sharp screens before software and hardware are added. sony & panasonic are sharp screens. clearly the software makes the tv run & sets picture quality. check of the tv not box usually tells you if it is just badge re engineering

no good... only sharp microwaves are darn good

Sony sold off their TV manufacturing plants a few years ago. All Sony TVs are just repackaged or rebadged contract manufactured stuff. Akai are owned by Sony too.

Toshiba and Mitsubishi TVs have been rebadged Vestel sets for at least 10 years - you could buy identical TVs with Toshiba, Mitsubishi, Goodmans, Bush, Lodos etc. badges.

Toshiba's DVD/hard disk recorders are the same, many of them are rebadged Funai machines.
