I've been suffering from dust and allergy symptoms over the last year or so and after seeing positive comments regarding air purifiers I looked up some models, did LOADS of comparisons and came to the conclusion that the Sharps are generally very good. Normally this model is around £400 so £195 delivered is fantastic as far as I'm concerned. Other models are cheaper but the replacement filters end up costing you more in the long run.

You don't have to use the humidifer feature and this unit reaches it's optimum efficiency around the room size of 10ft x16ft. Above that it becomes less able to filter particles even though the marketing claims it is possible. Maybe 13ft x 19ft maximum?

Anyway I've ordered one and hopefully my sneezing, itchy eyes, rough chest and sleepless nights will soon be gone. Antihistamines only have so much power and I had started to become used to mine. I've got two cats coming early next year hence why I thought I'd better step up the protection.

The Air Purifier site (http://www.air-purifier-power.com/sharpplasmaclusterkc860ureview.html) has some great info and it helped me make my decision.

Are these units portable?

I currently have an airfree in the room, but according to that review site it'll take ages to clean the air!

I want to rid the place of dust mites and other allergens but don't really want the humidifier cos the last one I used caused black spots on the ceiling, but if this unit is good then I'll give it a try...

You can move them from room to room but they are pretty big for an air purifier. They are however one of the best Air Purifiers and a lot quieter than the smaller ones due to the big fan. They also sense when the air is dirty and automatically go from standby to on which is something most cheaper purifiers don't do. One last point is the replacement filters are over £90 to buy. This won't be an issue to most people as they have a 5 year life, BUT that will be drastically reduced if you are a smoker.

I don't intend to use the humidifier part. I would be buying the A80(?) mentioned on the site but it doesn't appear to be available in the UK. If there is no water in it then it isn't that heavy.. thought I saw 22lbs.

Aye if it is in a smoking environment the hepa filter will need replacing sooner but based on the activity times from the review site (and elsewhere) it will take several years. Can't wait to get mine, the amount of wasted days I've had due to reactions..

Oh sorry I think a good hour on high is sufficient to get rid of 90%+ so I'll probably set mine to come on via timer before we get home or just when cooking tea etc. Then I'll leave it on low for a couple hours in the evening. Power consumption on medium and low is really good. Even high isn't terrible and I'm a electrical tightwad

Thanks for the info!

I've spent 358 on 2 nexus tabs without a second thought - but this, which will bring health benifits has me thinking twice?? I don't get that. Anyway, I'll do a bit more reading and probably order this, unless I can find this sort of spec without the humidifier option a little cheaper. Cheers!

Finally ordered a couple of days ago, should come through on Monday.
Any comments on the purchase?

Sorry I completely missed your post. I've been happily using mine, I like it. Quiet mode is really good but i've been leaving it on auto and bumped the sensitivity up to high. When it's meal time it quite often goes to red on the odour meter! It's difficult to say if it has improved my health as we started cleaning more around the same time (we had got a bit lazy) and I've recently got two kittens. Generally I've been sneezing less and my daughter has been better too. How about you?
