Pretty decent price for a 40 inch smart full HD tv especially with the 5 year warranty once you register within 14 days of purchase provided by UMC/Sharp. Couldn't find much about UMC/Sharp warranty but sounds good if anyone's got any more info

Buy a Sharp TV between 01/05/2018 – 30/06/2018 and get a free 5 year manufacturer’s guarantee. Redeemable online only, Register your product within 14 days of purchase by visiting umc-uk.co.uk/sha…ear

4K is not waste of money. 1080p is waste of money.

really, so for people who have no 4k sources, maybe they just have freeview or skyhd, what do they get by paying extra for a 4k TV?

4K is a waste of money on a 40" TV you'll hardly notice the difference

Or having a good picture on your TV.
Looks good to me for £249; nice find @SalmanOrange
Atrocious UI as per reviews. Better off buying a Hisense.
Better buy 4k now.

I'm stuck on weather to get the non smart sharp 40 inch with 5 year warranty (£229) or the 32 inch toshiba from John Lewis with 5 year warranty (£199). Both are full HD, and will be mainly used for playing PS4. Can anyone help

It's a good Name (mind you, what's in a name these days eh?, in many cases, a "Name" is just a badge). It's a good size, AND (best of all) it has a 5 year warranty, so a TV for less than £1 a week... kind of (5 years = 260 weeks) ...sounds like a HUKD fer SOMEbody me thinks.

For me?, it would be a question of ...How far from the set are yer gonna be?. Once you've experienced 40"+, I think yer gonna notice a (32") downsizing. I'd get myself down the store (with plenty of sets on display) and check em out.

Whether the weather has anything to do with it may depend on using it outdoors, should be ok indoors.

It's not easy going back to our idea of a good picture after that, me thinks.

Sorry mate but you totally baffled me

Sorry mate but you totally baffled me

You too eh ezzer, CHRist it even confused ME so I got rid of it, sorry bout that.

Try again...
We may think we have a good picture on our current TV (as I thought) and couldn't see it could get any better...until I had to go to a SONY showroom, and came across a couple of HUGE TV's...as big as windows, some of em, and you could say much the same about the price tags...ouch.

well, anyway, the picture on these screens (the action) was SO clear n life like, it was almost like you were watching the action THROUGH a window. At the end of the day, picture "quality" is in the eye of the beholder

I think it's much the same with SCREEN size, in that once you've experienced a larger (in this case 40") screen, you may not be happy to go back to a smaller 32".

The dilemma for 1 forum member is/was this 40" from Tesco, or a slightly cheaper 32" (Toshiba I think) from J L, both with a cracking warranty.

All the best.

Had a black and white TV as a kid... picture would be fine
Wouldn't pay £100 for this. It's old technology now.
Vestel rubbish as well. Would rather spend little more for a 4k budget brand.
Cold from me
Is this the same one that went for £200 on Currys not long ago?

There are better tvs for this money imo.

Finlux 32” Full HD Smart TV/DVD Combi with Freeview Play (32-FDB-5522) amazon.co.uk/dp/…346

argos.co.uk/pro…563
Surprisingly good television, we got one when they were £179 over the Black Friday sales. In my opinion UMC are way better than Vestel, the tv itself has had about 3 firmware upgrades during this period and not had any problems with the smart tv aspect of it either, fast and fluid.

Ideal second tv for a bedroom etc....picture settings take a little bit of tweaking to get the most out of it (there again is anyone happy with picture settings out the box?), and the sound is surprisingly good, it is not the slimmest of tvs but to its advantage this allows better speakers.
Yes the tv for £179 on black Friday... sound is not great for listening to ppl talk, background is louder. Ideally would have gone for a better brand. Plus the tv doesn't like the v6 virgin box remote.

I have a 43" Sharp smart TV which I paid £249 2 yrs ago. The 'Smart' features are horrendous, it's really slow at starting up, and the pic quality (especially brightness and contrast) are no where near as good as my Hisense TV. Whether or not you want 4k as it's not mainstream enough, you are buying a sub par TV with a 5 yr warranty, so let's assume you would use it for 5 yrs....2 yrs down the line when 4k is alot more relevant, you are stuck with your crappy Sharp TV. Spend a bit more and get a 4k Hisense....which even in SD and HD is far more superior.

There's a deserted bit of wasteland 30 miles NW of you where on any Saturday you can dump your old tv free of charge. It looks like somebody already dumped a load of unused red plastic seats there, so it's easy to find.
Just avoid the place when people from Manchester are visiting there as for some reason that seems to attract all the locals.
My friend bought this TV and soundbar to go with it. Picture is good when viewing a firestick and the sound is very impressive compared to many other costlier TVs.

£239 for a 40" TV with a five year guarantee; pretty good deal I'd say.
