smart meter a part of the deal.

It seems to be "here, have all this smart tech for "free"..... It's our bribe for you to be ok with us installing a smart meter". No thanks

OMG, and the 5G mobile networks spread Covid 19, I read that on the internet too. I'm going to live on a desert island and wear a tin hat, that'll save humanity
People freaking out about having a smart meter but they want a nest hub max. Oh the irony
I have worked in the energy industry for 10 years now and to break this down the standing charge on electricity is 60p a day on average these combined rates match say Scottish powers standard tarriff and each fuel has a £50 exit fee. Over the course of 3 years it's probably not worth it but if you don't mind paying more and staying with this company and just want the hue then go for it just be cautious of the rates and exit fees

What’s the problem with a smart meter?

Also genuinely interested to know this
I looked at this and the rates were high. Much cheaper rates buying shell energy through top cashback and through moneysupermarket.

Never had problems with cashback but yes class as a nice bonus.

£260 worth of kit is good too. If it doesn't appeal, vote and move along

Bulb Energy pay up to £120 exit fees, other companies may also.

I also change companies frequently even after short periods.

True reason I mentioned is because a lot of people don't know this will see the free items not realising about exit fees etc thinking the can just cancel when gift arrives. I used to work for bulb octopus also best deal I've seen lately and to watch out for us when octopus give £50 Amazon voucher the same day you sign up get the voucher via email within three hours and you can cancel instantly
Daily standing charge for electricity is extortionate at 59.6p a day! 23.4p per day for gas is almost competitive.

I was thinking that seen gas rates thinking not bad then seen elec I think it's because companies struggle to take gas alone so the uplift In elec contemplates for the gifts

True, just checked Bulb and

electric is 18.66p a day
gas is 19.46

So factor in approx £12 more a month on shell

Where does it say that?

Looks like a different tarrifs so not 100% sure. screen below grabbed from MSE comparison tool.

Anyone knows how i can get the smart meters quicker without jumping on this tarrif? Thanks
Does a comparison site take into account the standing charge?
When I switched from British Gas, Shell were the cheapest of the bigger companies on several comparison sites.

Also interested why people say a Smart Meter is not good to get.

Call your energy supplier.

I don't want them, EVER
Deal.hunter12315/05/2020 20:59

Expensive...

Because you are not getting "free" stuff for free. You pay for it hidden inside of your bill

Right now I'm paying around £75 per month DD. With Shell they quote me for £111. That's £36 extra per month.

It's fixed tariff for 36 months, that giving £1296 over pay... How many "free" stuff I would be able to buy? Plenty.

And joke of the day: Their daily standing charge for electricity is: 59.540p per day

LOOL.
With smart meters, suppliers know that the highest energy usage during pandemic lockdown has been around 11am. They know your habits etc. can taylor future tarrifs to maximise their profits etc
£305.00 more over 2 year on my yearly usage.
As for bulb or octopus look on eBay as people are offering £25 of their referral, so you get £75 to switch.
Ive switched to Avro energy as they do warm home discount and don’t force you into smart meters.

Good you checked everything and factored in whether the deal is for you.

Why do you feel you have to stay with the company long term?

I believe I can gain from this by a quick 'swap in and swap out'

I am just coming out of a 18 month contract with shell energy. I just go with the cheapest at the time via uswitch or Martin Lewis saving site.

As for the smart meter it was in my contract to get a smart meter however there was a flaw in the contract wording "may" and not "must". Also I added that I would happily pay the exit fee and leave thus leading them to lose over 13 months payments! They left me alone, so I was happy until the contract renewal came up. Time to jump ship!

Join Bulb, get your exit fees paid. If you can get recommended too you get £50 welcome credit.

then you can have a look at what tariffs are around and leave free!

Quotes are useless unless you use your actual usage in kWh a lot of agents make you say low user etc so the initial quote is cheaper then once reads are given huge increase

Have a read up online, make up your own mind.

Seems like poss radiation problems and in my mind your supply can be turned off at the suppliers end.

Imagine it they get hacked.
I find them quite expensive as I switched last year. Need to switch to different supplier as Shell is leaching out my bank.
