The Shell Helix Professional portfolio is a range of lubricants designed specifically to meet individual vehicle manufacturers? specifications to give you reassurance you are using the right product for your vehicle. Shell Helix Ultra Professional AG 5W-30 is specifically designed and fully approved against the technically challenging General Motors oil specification+E2 dexos2TM applicable to the majority of Vauxhall vehicles. It has passed rigorous testing to gain this approval from GM (Vauxhall). Shell Helix Professional AG 5W-30 is the result of years of technology collaboration and lubricant research between Shell and General Motors. Shell Helix Ultra Professional AG passenger car motor oils are formulated using unique Shell PurePlus Technology, which, compared to traditional group II and group III base oils, provides enhanced viscosity, friction and volatility performance. Shell PurePlus Technology offers the opportunity to develop superior lubricants for the most advanced engines, achieving engine cleanliness not possible with lesser base oils. This breakthrough process converts natural gas into a crystal-clear base oil with virtually none of the impurities found in crude oil. From that pure, clear base Shell add their proprietary Active Cleansing Technology to create a motor oil that helps provide superior cleansing and protection for today?s engines ? protection that exceeds industry standards, keeping critical engine components cleaner.

Unless you have an old banger I would not mix oils from different grades ( unless it is an emergency!)

the first number represents performance in winter (hence the W letter). The lower the number, the better the liquidity of oil in low temperatures.

the second number represents performance in higher temperatures. The higher, the better lubrication in high temperatures.

Having said that, stick to whatever type of oil your manual recommends.

Is there anyway to check if its suitable for my car?
For bmw and vag? Looks like suitable for GM motors

A higher second number oil will not necessarily be better at high temperatures but it will be thicker. A 5w40 oil will be thicker at higher temperatures than a 5w30. A 5w50 will be thicker still. If your car is supposed to run on a 5w30 oil then changing to a 5w40 will just mean you are getting a thicker oil at normal operating temps. This may or may not be problematic, if you have oil pressure operated VVT for instance it could kick in earlier than it should.

You car manual will have a range of oil grades that can be used and give direction for temperature variations.

BMW LL-04 oils also generally meet ACEA C3 so I expect they're quite similar. ACEA C3 is low saps and suitable for diesel cars with particulate filters but if you're worried just put what your handbook recommends in (approved oils only)
ECP states my car is suitable for AF Shell Helix Ultra. This is AG. Can I use it for my 2011 Honda Jazz.

I thought the Audi 1.6tdi standard was C3?
This states that it meets the C3 standard.
My car uses 5w30 oil. Will any 5w30 oil do or do I need to get a special kind of 5w30 oil that's specific to my car?

I'd avoid chip-shop oil, but all else should be ok, synthetic is best if you can afford it.

No, you need one specific to your car. Manual will tell you the spec code.
If anyone is after any other oils, Eurocar parts is doing 40% off oils with the code MID60.
