I am afraid not, these have thick, sturdy sole purely for cycling

I bought some MTB shoes but never fitted them. Can I use them on a road bike or would they not be suitable?

no issues there, however you will have to choose right pedals.mtb shoes can usually accommodate spd cleats (the element that is screwed to the shoes ), alternatively you can always use standard flats pedals.

MTB shoes on a road bike..........

I have these and they are great! hot price too!

why not ? I know a few keen cyclists who ride undistinguishable old models of spez or trek, wear no lycra and use standard flat pedals...I can assure you that a lot of guys you can see in full Astana or BMC uniforms wouldn't be able to keep up the pace when they are just travelling to work . This is not an elite sport, cycling is for everyone, wearing better clothes or having a carbon bike won't make you a better cyclist.

I think there is sometimes too much about style and perception, forget it, just go and enjoy cycling.
