Just been looking to buy some shin guards for my girlfriend's daughter as she's joined her school's football team and they're got some really good bargains at Sports Direct.

They're lowest priced shin guards are only £2 and ones with ankle guards, such as Umbro Vortex (pictured), just £3.

Delivery starts at £3.99 but I'm pretty sure these are also available in store.

My 10 year old daughter wears medium boys. Ive 3 girls who all play football and TBH these shinguards are as good as any out there. We get most of our stuff at Sports World. Did you know you can get quidco there aswell, just register your credit card on the quidco site and every time you shop you get some back.

Whats up with rolled up newspapers?

Kids of today - dont know they're born.

Jumpers for goal posts sir?

I bet you still play your football with laced up balls don't you!?

ahh yes jumpers for goal posts the good old days. these are good shin pads i use them and have withstood some nasty challenges. the only issue is the ankle gaurds, they occasionally slide around and have to be pushed back but they can be sown still.

My son lost his shinpads and was told he could still play provided he used rolled up newspapers down his socks - he was up for it but I just went and bought him a new pair lol

No, you dont give it to them, its registered with quidco. A lot of shops are joinuing the scheme, worth looking at.

I'm always surprised to see that pro players just seem to have ones that go down the front of your sock and not ones with ankle protection. What is up with that? I always thought ones without ankle bits were the cheapo ones.

Maybe that's why they're all bloody well injured half the time!?;-)

I paid £24 for my last pair of shinnies. They're absolutely cracking but they always slip down. A wee bit of lecky tape sorts it all out though

Be sure to buy a pair with ankle guards as is hurts like fudge if you get kicked there
