Offered here before, but a long time ago!

This is James Clavell's tour-de-force; an epic saga of one Pilot-Major John Blackthorne, and his integration into the struggles and strife of feudal Japan. Both entertaining and incisive, SHOGUN is a stunningly dramatic re-creation of a very different world.

Starting with his shipwreck on this most alien of shores, the novel charts Blackthorne's rise from the status of reviled foreigner up to the heights of trusted advisor and eventually, Samurai. All as civil war looms over the fragile country.

This is a great book, and with the other 5 linked books will keep you going til the Spring.

Has anyone read this, is it any good?

Put off visualising Richard Chamberlain playing John Blackthorne in the TV series.

It’s brilliant. Much better than the tv series. Would recommend...once you get into it you are fully immersed in that world.

Thank you for the feedback I will give it a read over Christmas.

One of the best books I've ever read - amazing story.

Read it last year after getting it on offer then.

Epic is actually an appropriate word to use to describe this novel.

Amazing book, and a great price!

Thanks for sharing Inglés!

Read this book about 6 times & loved every minute of it, got several other of his books as well... A brilliant writer, especially when you read his bio or King Rat...

You're obviously of a certain age, to remember that!

This is quite possibly the best book I've ever read, and I read a lot.

Do these have mucky bits in?

Shame we’ll never know what happened to the last coin...
