Bargain! Fantastic game and with all the expansions its a social life killing purchase.

Fantastic deal. Heat given. For once and bargin not from Steam, something I can touch.

This would make a fantastic present for anyone who is vaguely interested in strategy games but has yet to experience the Civ. phenomena

perfect for my laptop, thanks

is this game any good then, I like Age of empires is it like that ?

When will it ever be this cheap on Mac :-(

Can anyone who already owns this set tell me how many discs there are? I picked it up 2nd hand for my brother and it had two discs. Is the manual required for installation? Cheers

The Civ4: Complete I bought a couple of years ago has just one disc in it.
On it are all 3 games, Vanilla Civ4, Warlords expansion, and Beyond the Sword expansion.

Love this game, I don't have the expansion packs tho.

Age of Empires is a real-time strategy game; Civilization is a turn-based strategy game. (though multiplayer works a little differently; turn-based, but you move your pieces simultaneously, so being quicker can be advantageous)

They aren't realy comparable; but Civ4 is the best iteration of an outstanding series.
Only thing worth warning about is the recommended specs - as it's quite GPU heavy.
The box recommends a (Geforce 2 / Radeon 7500) or better, but for the best experience you'll want something a little faster. If your machine scores 3000+ in 3d mark 2005, it should run the game satisfactorily.

I was in the same situation; had the original but no expansions.
Ended up buying Complete simply because it was cheaper than buying the expansions seperately.

The expansions add a lot to the game; so much that it isn't worth listing it all here - suffice to say the game isn't a complete experience until you are playing Beyond the Sword (BtW)
There are also lots of mods that make the BtW AI much smarter. (which is preferable to making it cheat more, which is what the game's own difficulty settings do)

If you've afforded a Mac, surely money is no objective? But good point (perhaps its cheaper in the US?)

It's got similarities to Age of Empires but it's a much bigger title, takes a bigger view. As well as managing units, resources and buildings, you also have to deal with religion, trade and which technologies to invest time in. It sounds duller the more you describe it really but playing it, it's incredibly addictive. You can also set a lot of things to manage themselves and there is built in help as you play from the games advisor.

I'd say if you liked AOE you'd like this too.

Try Alpha Centauri if you like this... 10 years old but still one of the best games ever.

Here's hoping that in years to come webgl will make cross platform gaming easier.

Well, it's essentially a combat game. 'Dealing' with religion involves building missionary units and then sending them off to 'attack' another city to spread the religion and trade happens automatically once you've researched the appropriate technologies.

Civ4 started out with a disk check, but the latest patch has removed it.

Personally I always found Civ4 to be too fast paced; there never seems to be time to build up an army before it becomes obsolete. I much prefer Europa Universalis 3 myself.

If you do get Civ4 then the Fall From Heaven 2 mod is worth checking out (1 comes bundled with BTS, but 2 is much better). The gameplay itself isn't perfect but the variety and races are really good and the sort of thing Civ4 should have been in the first place.

Buying this = killing your real life...

Nice find! Can't wait to get it!

Actually I think Civ 2 is better, but no doubt this is a great game. Metascore of 94 to prove it.

just had a go with the demo on steam, it looked ok so have purchased this, nice one

Ordered on Amazon a few days ago for £8 which I thought was good, this is fantastic

I know it's a long shot - but is this out on PS2 at all??

Best game ever. I am still obsessed with it.

It's a strategy game, it's unlikely to be out on any console.

A quick check with ]Wikipedia shows that the only port it got was an Mac OS one.

It's THE turn-based strategy game for the PC, the gold standard as it were. Well worth the £5 for the complete game.
