Sigma 55-200mm f/4-5.6 DC (Canon fit) lens.

No, it hasn't got image stabilisation.
No, it's not the best telephoto on the market.
But it is only £75 including P&P!

It's small and light and should be fine if you want a cheap and cheerful second lens for a Canon.

No there doesn't appear to be a Nikon one at that price. Or a Sony one. Or a Pentax one. Or an Olympus one. It's for Canons - like wot it says in the title!

Come on guys, if you are voting cold give us a reason!

If you are looking for a lens with good built, proper focus ring, no cromatic abberations (CA), get this one.
You can always use a tripod or lean against sonthing to avoid blur. Hot from me.

No chromatic aberration? I have several canon L lenses and they still show some chromatic aberration dependant on shooting conditions. I'd be surprised if this had such low chromatic aberration that it was impossible to notice.

Can't argue with that price though!

As said, no CA, at the expense of a bit of softness at the long end, which is easily corrected with in-camera sharpening.

While there is technically no such thing as no aberration (everything, including variations in air density, will refract light of different wavelengths differently) you can see some red/green aberration in the following photo taken with this lens from the ephotozine review (at the edges of the "opening times" sign):
ephotozine.com/art…5.6

I'm not saying that the level seen there is problematically high for this price of lens, if anything it's quite low, but it isn't quite the same as no aberration. Sorry for being so pedantic. Your claims had me wanting to check out this miracle lens!

Had this lens for some years now & love it. Great for wildlife & sport

What exactly am I looking at there?

Some red/green aberration apparently.

ah ok, I zoomed in to a ridiculous level and I think I can see purple on the left and green on the right.

good deal¬

I saw in PP you can get this for £49.99 if you buy it with a Canon EOS body. I think that's just instore though.

There is no such thing as a perfect lens and as posted above, all lenses will show some degree of cromatic abberations (alongside a multitude of other things that detract from perfection). However, for this price you will not see anything better.

My Canon 300mm F/2.8L IS shows minor CA (albeit very minor). The is considered pretty good.

The Higher the pixel count, the more the annomalies will be visible (both within the lens and the sensor).

This is a great deal. All of the Sigma lenses I have owned in the past have had solid build quality.

Hi, can you confirm this is an auto focus lens? (for the eos series)

Cheers

abc-digital-cameras.co.uk/sho…643 I think this might be a little cheaper, especially since park cameras seem to charge £4.99 for P&P.

Dammit. Got a Canon 5D, and this is a DC lens (for cropped sensors). 5D needs full-frame (or DG) type. Would have made a good cheap telephoto...

Hot though!

Would it not have been better to buy a cropped camera in the first place if budget was going to be a problem?

This is a great lens, a bit short for general wildlife however great at the zoo or similar on a sunny day. A bit sharper than the 70-300 APO at 200mm (I have both) and this one is lighter and more compact.
Hot.
