Absolutely - that's the one I was looking for when I came across this one. Still, good price, but I think I'll keep searching for the APO version.

Could anyone who's bought this from Argos confirm that it's a motorised version please?
I had a look at the photo of the lens on Argos and see that it's kind of different from the one on Amazon: amazon.co.uk/Sig…8-1
I have a Nikon D40 and would definitely get it if it works!
Thanks

I'm also keen to find out if this is the motorised version, and if it will work with my D40x. Can anyone confirm, anyone got this yet?

It is an auto focusing lens, so should work if your camera supports it.

oh yes, can someone please cofirm if it works with Nikon D40? i mean autofocus. thx

"Full size manual focus." makes me thisnk is is not motorised

according to sigma...if its the correct model

sigma-photo.com/len…r=3

motorised.....

but its out of stock anyway

Some camera have the motor built in, making this a steal

A new version of this lens was launched in January last year that has an in-built motor for the D40/D60, but the earlier version (which I have) apparently doesn't, so it may be a case of taking your camera down to Argos and requesting a look first....

Nikon D40 doesnt have internal motor which i shame as it would have been great lens.

Doubt this will work on D40/x/D60. Says nothing in the spec about HSM (Sigmas version of AF-S).

Nikon version is out of stock

GRrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

HSM is Sigma's version of Nikon's Silent Wave motor which is a premium feature. There are non-HSM Sigma lens that still have a built in autofocusing motor but they're not as fast or as smooth as HSM. if you want HSM you have to pay a premium for it...

as stated previously, a motorised version was released earlier this year, the older versions were compatible ( they would fit and work etc) but would not autofocus. i would think that this is an older model, the retail on the new one is around £150, and sigma prices are going up if anything, i cant see them knocking a third off after a couple of months. its a great bargain lens though, i have one for my sony, and tbh i hardly use the autofocus anyhow ( cos its super slow, lol!)

It's a macro lens too, so will you need autofocus that much? I find I take a lot of shots without autofocus on when using my Sigma macro lens.

good price voted hot. i bought one of these from warehouseexpress for my d40 at £99.00 3 months ago.

So can we all confirm this WILL NOT auto focus with a D40? Anyone bought one able to confirm? Is it this version:

]for those that are too lazy to both to research

"Further Details" states:
The Nikon D40 and D40x were the first Nikon cameras without a built in auto focus motor. This has now been followed with the D60 camera. This means that any lens used with the D40 D40x and D60 will need an auto focus motor built into the lens. Many Sigma lenses have been re-designed to incorporate a built in motor, allowing autofocus when used with all Nikon cameras, including the D40 D40x and D60.

This lens is fully compatible with the Nikon D40, D40x and D60 camera which require a built-in motor.

Will this work well with the Canon 450D (i think that's what it's called)

I'm new to these cameras, what is the benefit of these lenses, is it just how far you can zoom by?

I don't think it's a question of people being too lazy to research, rather a concern that the lens being sold in Argos may be this one, which doesn't have a built in AF motor, and is quite a bit cheaper than the Argos one... although only available in Nikon fit..

Thanks for the help. We are aware it will 'work' but there are two versions of this same lens.
1. The one that will auto focus and has a motor in the lens.
2. The one that requires the user to focus manually by hand (i.e. no AF).

Can anyone confirm if this deal is for option 1 or 2 as described above?

Good price - got one for my 400D.

I've got this lens and use it on my 450d.

Its an excellent lens, good quality pictures and superb zoom. Only downside is it doesn't have image stabilisation (and canon doesn't have it built in to the body). However, I've not found this to be an issue at all, even at 300mm zoom.

I can also confirm it has manual and Auto focus.

The benefit is the zoom distance yes. The only other issue you will find if you have the standard 18-55mm canon lens is you have a gap between 56-69. However, I've not found this to be an problem either.

Great value, great lens.

Thanks for that, sounds like a decent enough buy then

I ended up splashing out a little more and treating myself to the Canon 70-200 f4 L USM instead. So glad I did, results are astonishing.

Glad people found this one useful - looks like they're both out of stock now
