LOL! I thought it was something new. I've shopped with JL for ever - but only received an invite this week! So much for loyalty programme!

I still haven't got around to going in and getting a free cake.

Apparently the regulars don't like the freeloaders joining up for this offer.

That's over 4 months old, this new one is allowed I believe due to the length of time between the two.

To be fair they have a point, all the good cakes eaten and big queues due to freeloaders like us. John Lewis/Wait rose should give VIP/fastrack to customers that regularly shop with them IMO, it's their fault the problem exists in the first place!

I live in Nottingham and doesn't seem to be a problem in the Espresso Bar or Cafe. My girlfriend and I also used ours in Edinburgh (where she lives/studys) and no problems again. Very good selection of cake and queues not that big at all. Don't jump to assumptions because of one store/time period. Also so what if regular customers are annoyed, that is John Lewis' problem and it knew the risks. Everybody, go and great some great cake and passable (I drink espresso and drink a lot of it, so this is a biased judgement) coffee

Thanks

If that's really the case - the "regulars" should pay more attention to their surroundings - the tables at John Lewis have a notice on inviting you to join & telling you of the monthly rewards inc. free cuppa & cake oO
If not nationwide - they do in Leicester - where we've been very much enjoying our freebies since Xmas

BTW if you've not the time to eat in - you can get your cuppa & cake to go - why waste a voucher?!

Hi

Had coffee and cake in John Lewis, Oxford Street. The carrot cake was horrible (No taste) but the latte was good. Won't bother again and gave the rest of the vouchers to a friend.

Just signed up now, thanks OP. I've received confirmation email of membership, but do I need to wait to receive membership card and vouchers before I can claim the free cake and coffee?

Oh yes please !

You do - no vouchers, no cake. Took a little while to arrive, as I recall.

Don't have carrot cake in my local JL, from what you say, that might be a good thing.

Still getting through my vouchers, Mocha is tasty and the earl grey/lemon cakes are very filling. Also the fruit flapjack is a beast too.
Also staff are very nice and don't look at you funny for giving a voucher, they take it with no problems.

I asked the woman at the counter whether I would receive more vouchers, and she said I would only receive more if I spend money in John Lewis.

BTW, has anyone tried to use their old vouchers which aren't in date anymore? I've got two.

If that's true, that's going to put paid to this little freebie, isn't it? oO

The Stratford Westfield JL do really good carrot cake, very tasty, especially the little marzipan carrot on top! I go with the gf once a month just as a nice treat, no-one really cares about using vouchers there, staff or otherwise, and wouldn't really care much if they did!

I keep forgetting to swipe mine :-(

good stuff

Oh no....we have a new ongoing freebie that potentially will be posted every few weeks. Say hello to your friends Bitecard and EHIC. May as well include the myWaitrose card in this as well, as its only a matter of time before that gets more postings that it currently does.

Come on HUKD, there should be a place for ongoing freebies (I've mentioned that nearly as many times as the Bitecard has been posted!)

Hi, I used February and March in April and nobody looked at the date, the staff in my local were really helpful advising which cakes were good and seemed really pleased we were using the vouchers

Yes, I just received my card yesterday, the cake vouchers are concertina for monthly use. You can quote the card number sent by email for totting up points on any spend prior to receipt of your physical card.

Thanks, prob explains why I couldn't find it as I searched before I posted, also it didn't come up as a suggestion when I was posting. To be fair I hadn't heard of it neither had my friends. I suspect the vouchers will become one of those great ideas that turn to mush in my holding bay ie purse!
