why would anyone risk damaging a £500 device with a cheap knock off cable from poundland!

It's only a cable. It either works or it doesn't.

Sadly its not, the Apple ones have some kind of chip in them. New Ipad will report an uncertified cable when you plug it in.
Apple up to their usual tricks again.

Voted hot from me, my wife has an iPad mini, when it updates to IOS7, the official cable that came with it stopped working, a £1 cable from Poundland works great!

These work fine, it's the mains plugs (mains to USB adapters) that you have to be careful of (and even then it's generally not a problem if they're from a reputable source). Sure, my iphone5 tells me that it's not an apple cable ... but it still charges and syncs perfectly well. A little while ago Apple offered to trade 'other brand' chargers for a significant discount on the apple chargers ... this didn't apply to the cables, only the USB/mains plugs.

These cables last for about a week....Apple ones last for about a month

What do you do with those cables?

My poundland one has just stopped charging due to the USB connector has just fallen apart and now my phone has sync issues using a genuine cable.

Not getting into this argument yet again -if you're daft enough to charge a £500 piece of kit with a £1 lead you deserve sympathy not advice !

It's actually £15 but is also guaranteed for a year

I've got 3 cables from pound land. Use them everyday and never had an issue. Hot from me.

We get ours off eBay, similar price and no issues. The official apple one actually split at the top, exposing wires! If it works, it works FairPlay. If it doesn't, it was a quid.

Had 2-3 of these and mix and match with the original cable and can't even tell the difference anymore.
They're spot on and I use them with 2 iphone 5's, Mini and Ipad Air... all without issue.

probs all made in the same factory...

'My mates aunts cousin blew-up her house when she used on if these cables'.

"Of course she did mate."

These cables are generally fine. Hot from me

My brother bought a lightening cable from pound land on Saturday and it's
Melted near the end which goes into the iPad. See attached photo

The chip in the cable tells the iphone which way up the cable is and what wires to expect voltage on - I'm with the poster that I wouldn't buy a £1 no-name one of these

I could never get these to work with the iPod nano

No it doesn't. BTW your link is "currently unavailable"

bought a phone case, on the packaging it says FOR iphone 6, the actual case inside is for a iphone 5.
Someone needs to do a quality control check

I bought three 2 metre cable for iphone 5/6 though from Poundland since at £1 seemed like a good deal. Big disappointment - whilst they work charging the phone, you have to jam it in hard, really have to push it giving a feel you might break the phone. Same with an ipad but didnt try as I feared breaking it. Compared in against another cable and the problem is that the dimensions aren't quite correct. Shame as else it feels like a well made quality cable. (I also bought an Android micro-usb sync cable same brand it is fine and also syncs).
