Never bought a glass protector for over a Pound, Standard price on eBay but you may have to wait a while with some listings
Worth it if you could get from pound shop though but we never seem to be able to get the good stuff like this from our local only get the tat
I'm not sure which jewel encrusted protector you'd bought for £5-£10 though, otherwise you were ripped off

And 200% more expensive

funny how manufactures try to make the phone as thin as possible and now we slap a 1mm thick screen protector on... which should not even be needed with all the Gorilla glass hype

I highly doubt it'll be tempered glass. Maybe glass, maybe plastic.

IMO a screen protector is not needed. I've no idea why people buy them.

I was being ironic. But failed....

Yes it does

Only thing I found with these is the edges chip

These things are next to useless.

I agree, it was usefull a few years ago before the Gorilla glass, but now, not matter how much I keep my phone in the same pocket with my keys, the screen will not get scratched.
On the other hand, I did drop it on concrete at some point, and the screen did got a tiny scratch.
But having to deal with the screen protector all the time just for that, I don't bother.

the only phones I ever see with a cracked screen is the iphones. I have dropped my Nexus a number of times and it has never suffered any damage! The only time when I dropped it on the side and damaged the volume button but it was covered by a 2 year warranty

samsung screens smash, mine did

These glass ones aren't like the plastic ones. They're easier to apply, wont trap bubbles, and are invisible (with the exception of the slightly raised edge).

Gorilla glass can still scratch, so for the sake of a quid to protect a £250+ phone, I think they're worth using.

1) so the plastic ones are visible ?
I notice the glass ones even in the pics of phones for sale. I used to have trouble knowing if there is a plastic film on my own phone... Definetely you are wrong there.

2) so a 1 pound glass is better than Gorilla glass 3 or whatever is used nowadays on iphones?
You negate the need for gorilla class since you seem to consider screen protectors mandatory.
My point was that these glass protectors are significantly thick (10% of the whole phone thickness) and add to the bulk... And because they are so raised up, dirt bulks up around (it also creates an edge that gets lint from your clothes)

Again, it depends what quality of tempered glass screen protector you buy. The cheap ones tend to be ill-fitting and quite thick.

I bought a decent-quality tempered glass protector for my OnePlusOne and it fits edge to edge perfectly and is 0.3mm thick.

The clarity and feel is 10 x better than a standard screen protector.

If you see a properly-fitted, quality tempered glass protector, you'll want one.

1) Well, yes the plastic ones are much more visible, but you've got to consider the product in use when answering such question as they're, of course, both going to be on par when fresh from the packet. However, the plastic ones are only 'fresh' for a short time as they are too soft and mark very easily. The glass ones don't. The plastic ones also peel too easily, picking up dirt around the edges. The glass ones don't.

2) You've missed the point. Its not about comparing the phone glass strength to that of the screen protector. Both CAN get marked, yet only one costs £1 to replace.

Your 10% bulk claim is very outdated. The one on my M8 is just 0.3mm thick (3.2% 'bulk' if percentages are that important to you :p).

As for 'negating the need for gorilla glass', you forget that a screen can be damaged by more than just scratches.
