I read report a little while ago saying the best type to get is a spring/memory foam combination. I think it was good housekeeping but can't be sure. It said this would give you the best support and comfort.

exactly. I went direct in a memory foam factory in Dewsbury and I didn't like it. It was 100% memory foam and it used to sit down a lot.
I gave it back for a swop for a spring memory mattress

I bought 2 of these £101 flubit

A coil sprung mattress will create the roll together effect, go for a pocket sprung mattress and depending on weight/combined weight will determine how many springs.
I just had one made with 2000 springs and 4" memory foam, I find it can get really warm with the memory foam.
It's a case of pay less pay twice, memory foam is generally 3cm I have socks thicker than that!
