Hot, but then again shouldn't they be cool?

very useful hot!

We got some of these a while back. They certainly work well but are a devil to keep clean even using a dishwasher. A stiff brush and fairy liquid seems the best bet.

I am looking at a burn on the back of my hand, yep, getting a caraway seed cake out of the oven only yesterday, Brilliant idea - I wish that I had thought of it

Did they have any chocolate fireguards? lol

So just to be sure these are just to stop you accidentally burning your hands, they aren't for taking the shelves in and out when the oven is on?

Or just let your woman take the food out the oven.....

Hot a must for me am full of burns, now just need something to stop me slicing my finger in the kitchen

Had some of these before - work very well though as stated difficult to keep clean.

Definitely better than the 99p/£1 shop versions that are just straight/smaller diameter tubes (ie dont grip so well around the uneven edge/bars and don't give as large a protective offset for delicate hands/arms).

They are at this price most of the time, they're great. My Mum has far less burn lines on her hands these days..!

Voted hot as it's good to get a few when they're in stock.

Why are you all burning your hands. Oven gloves!

Why dont ovens come with these?

Very confused here at the point of these I've never burned myself taking stuff out the oven because oven gloves or a folded teatowel does the trick.

Most likely the burns occur when people are putting things in the oven rather than taking things out......

The shelves are just as hot when putting things in and most people don't wear oven gloves to put cold trays in the oven !!

this is... this is a brilliant idea ! number of lil burns i've had on bck of my hand or top of my thumb, gonna have to pick up a pack.

do they grip well to the shelf edges or will these be coming loose every time i knock em with a tray ?

I had some similar ones I found to be an annoyance in practice. They make a lip that gets in the way so you cant just slide things out, or else youll knock them off onto the floor.

I'd have thought these would be more of a nuisance as it would stop you sliding heavy items of the oven shelf.

What a pointless invention. They wont stop stupid people burning themselves. As others have mentioned... oven gloves?

So do people put cold eggs by hand into a boiling pan with their hands instead of using a slotted spoon?
Common sense people lol its free

They CAN get knocked off as you slide heavy things around, but are soft and dont retain enough heat to do any harm and are big enuf NOT to fall irretrievably into oven hinge area - so no real harm done and they DO prevent scorches/burns even for people carefully using tea-towels etc.

Why dont they make the shelves completely out of this then you could lift the whole shelf out without needing oven gloves!

Good ol' ridged metal or silicon?:D

Good point but I was thinking more.....they could wrap the whole metal shelf in silicon!
