Hi guys now amazon has reduce the price of Silicondust HDHomeRun Connect Quatro for £99.99. I know it’s not the best price. But this is a very good deal.

Its must to have if you have Plex pass.

I haven't heard of this and I love gadgets! Can this stream freeview on Plex when roaming?
This was £92 on Prime day so possibly cheaper on Black Friday if you can wait. I want one to use with Plex but the stumbling block is the Plex pass required for the DVR function.
These are great if you want to play TV on any device in the house such as ipad iphone android etc
Just plug into power and a spare tv aerial socket and ethernet. Log in via web page to set up
Channels app works great to watch TV. Better than the Silicon dust app
Plex at the moment have changed their EPG provider so is very poor just now - their forums are full of issues

Great device i have this, watch live TV on all my tvs and any where in the world with Internet. Works great with plex pass and divers dvr.I recommend channels app on Android tv or apple tv. App is expensive but makes my lg oled feel cutting edge.
It's great to watch tv live on 99% of phones ipads etc pc in the house, I'm using their app for recordings as it killed my plex server.
I tell it to record then dump the files across to plex.
So I need to know what to use instead of the dust app to record not using plex.
Any help please before I have to pay another year.
Bought one on prime day, but had to return it. However it does bring the live TV capabilities to all devices running plex, but it is just so slow and changing one channel to another was taking 3 seconds.

Was that using the Plex software or the HDhomerun software?
It was plex running on nvidia shield. Also same issue with iPad.

Both are slow but great to have the ability to schedule/ record programmes and watch live UK tv abroad

Been reading reviews and some people have this issue and others don't, I'm wondering if it's to do with aerial signal strength

I don't think the issue is with my aerial as using with Samsung TV there is no issue whatsoever. As I have plex lifetime pass I had been looking forward to using plex live tv. But that lag was deal breaker for me.

I had the same issue using plex so removed it. Others are using big pc's which can cope. Mines a microserver so it records on another drive and i just drag across into Plex folders.

It’s depend on your local network speed and WiFi speed. It’s not working smoothly if your local network is too busy.

I'm pretty sure it's not the case, as I have the fastest wifi (virgin media 350 Mbps) in my area and also running the nvidia shield which I'm using as plex media server connected directly to router through ethernet cable.
Will work subtitle on Plex?

The issue is likely your shield it's not upto the task as a plex server. I use my proper server for plex as when I tried it with my shield it just wasn't upto serving media, the shield is a 2015 device it was cutting edge then for a media streamer but was never designed to be a server. I don't see the point of this device at all there are loads of ways of watching terrestrial tv on any device and with catchup and on demand it makes this obsolete there's very few shows that can't be watched on demand now the only downside is commercials and it's just another device on the network using electricity.

I thought it was designed to be a Plex server as it even comes with it installed.

I've just bought a Shield for this very reason after watching various YouTube reviews showing how capable it was as a server, one Youtuber had 5 streams playing to different clients at the same time. I wanted something very capable but that cost next to nothing to run electricity wise and the Shield ticked all the boxes.

It’s always wise to have a dedicated server for plex which has capable cpu and gpu to transcode streams. Plex doesn’t need more ram. 8GB ram is more than enough.

I don't understand your point, are you saying the Shield is or isn't a 'capable dedicated server'?

Like I said I watched reviews that said the Shield is capable and that's why I purchased whereas there's people on here who appear to say the opposite. Not everyone wants to run a PC and its associated electricity costs 24/7

Im not telling Shield isn’t good enough for plex streaming. Shield has some limitations when it’s come to processing power. Shield has ARM processor. If you have intel processor and dedicated gpu you can get maximum performance. If you do direct streams plex doesn’t need much processing power.

I’m recommending shield as a plex client

I got the duo version of this a couple of weeks ago & it's great. I have it linked up with Plex on my Synology NAS.

No. You need to have either of plex or SIlicondust subs for that. If you can get a good deal plex life pass worth it alone

Is it the PVR functionality why you say a must if you have Plex Pass - I got Plex Pass lifetime a while ago (which I dont think I use the Pass functionality) - more to support the Plex development tahn for the features - but Im always up for a project and gadget

Yes. Plex dvr is much better than sulicondust dvr. If you have a plex pass you can unlock lots of feature that are not available in free version.

Ok dumb question incoming. Can I use this so i can watch uk tv on my laptop while travelling for work? I already have a plex lifetime pass and a NUC 8th gen i5 as a plex server. How much hard drive space are people saving for recordings?

No, if you're using Plex it will just work. I too bought a Plex Pass a couple of years ago just to support the developers but it's been a nice surprise to find something as useful as this included in it!
Another noob question, can these be plugged into virgin media boxes as well, to view/record those channels?

I don’t have any idea about it. As long as if any device can detect HDHomeRun over the network, can use its all services like live stream and recoding (only if other device has recoding capability)(y)
