I'm all for buying British, but are you saying cane sugar from the West Indies is somehow inferior to UK beet sugar ?? Really?

FWIW I'm no cook, but I've just googled that Beet Sugar is not good for confectionery or caramel (burns and crystalises too easily or something like that)

articles.sfgate.com/199…ion

Most people cant taste the difference I guess, but when a preference is found it is nearly always in favour of cane sugar.

I suppose I better mention my ancestry is significantly influenced by the West Indian sugar trade (cough!cough!)

FWIW Doesn't really bother me, I'd buy the cheapest, I just dispute the perjorative write off of cane sugar as 'foreign imported stuff' which technically it is followed by 'you can't beat home grown etc' suggesting its some kind of far east knock off, of British sugar.

Having said all that, Currently I have the Silver Spoon Half Spoon thing with all the additives, it looks better than the Tate & Lyle Light with bulking agents.
Saw this post this morning just picked some up at the Torquay farm foods. Good deal H&R

Yeah its silver spoon british grown
real sweet deal
Very good deal i'm not fussy as to its origins, but 50p/kg is great
