Kudos.
Even if you have a 4 children.
It's hardly any hassle at all. I've not bought any shop ice cream since the first batch I made, a vanilla one. Try getting Guinness Foreign Extra flavour or proper rum & raisin from a shop I've never used eggs either, just double cream, semi-skimmed milk, caster sugar & vanilla extract and whatever takes your fancy.
Oh! Oh! Rum and raisin recipe please. ^_^
Me too!

I wonder if you can add the rum whilst in use - to regulate the alcoholic content (for the adults of course)?
Maybe making your own means you can create flavours which aren't readily available elsewhere? Maybe making it yourself means you end up knowing exactly what has gone into it - e.g. you could leave out the castoreum (a flavouring made from beaver wee) or cochineal (a food colouring made from beetles), both of which can be in commercial ice creams. Maybe making it yourself means you can reduce the fat or sugar content to levels you are comfortable with? Or maybe making ice cream is simply fun (especially if you have kids)?
But yes, many commercial ice creams are great value and something like this is probably really only for people who are really interested in cooking.
Off the top of me head, soak a couple of dessertspoons of raisins overnight in about double the amount of dark rum (I used double what the recipe stated ). Chuck 300ml of double cream in a jug then add about 150ml of semi-skimmed milk and mix together. Then add about (will update this later) g of caster sugar (golden is probably better for this one) and mix round until dissolved. Add a teaspoon or so of vanilla extract and mix up again. Get the ice cream maker running (frozen bowl) then carefully pour the cream mixture in. The best time to add the rum & raisins is just after you notice the cream mixture stiffening up. After this it will soften due to the rum but further churning will get it solidifying. Usually, when the paddle starts to struggle or keep reversing, it's time to scrape it into a tub for the freezer. Remember to lick the tools you scrape the bowl out with Will post a more accurate recipe up when I find it.

Made some strawberry once. Just the fruit and cream. Sincerely the flavour was so intense if I'd not known I'd have thought it was a supermarket buy, stuffed with artificial flavouring. Make of that what you will.
That article read like it was written by the food babe. X)
Lol....she says she don't eat ice cream....what can you do man....
