Cheapest I could find for a somewhat reputable brand on a usb 3.0 hub and not ordering from China.
This is a nationwide deal as it's on the website.

These are useful gadgets and cheaper than Anker or similar. Heat added. Would pick one up if I didn’t already have a few anker ones
good price and likely to be proper USB3 speed from Lidl.....have had so many so called USB3 hubs over the years that are fake and just USB2 speed ...even on Amazon (returned no probs) ...easy to return as well if in store and you have one local (a weekly Thursday trip for me ) ...Lidl's return process is very good .....only had to return a few things (I buy LOTS of tools) and never had a prob.
the cable seem a bit short, Can I use a normal USB extension and still get USB3 speed?

According to my ruler, the cable is 52cm long not including the USB part of it. I believe USB 3.0 extension cables can be had to around a fiver these days, I don't think a USB 2 extension would allow the speeds of 3.0.
Looks good - Amazonbasics / Anker clone
I bought one of these last year. Works great. Cable is a little short, though its perfect when used with front USB port on my PC.

You can get USB 3.0 extension cables but the longer the cable the lower the power delivered to the ports as this derives all of its juice from one 900mA USB port on the host computer. Flash drives will be fine but external hard drives may or may not work.

I bought this yesterday. Looks nice in the pictures. In reality, it looks cheap and nasty in the flesh. The aluminium surface looks like gaudily painted plastic and has a texture that makes the surface shimmer. Seems to work well enough but had I seen one outside of the box I would have spent a couple of quid more on a nicer finished hub.

I bought this for a Mac mini and the cable is easily long enough. Ditto for any notebook. If you are going to use this with a desktop computer, you should ideally be looking at a powered hub anyway

Just a reply on the condition of yours here, but I'd certainly look at replacing it. The one I got today has a pretty decent finish, at least for £6.99, on par with the £20ish one I got from Amazon not long ago, so I can't help but feel you might have just got a bit of a dud. Just my 2 cents

Thing is, I don't know if I'm just being picky but the sparkly milled surface of the aluminium was a bit of letdown for me. I would rather have had a plainer, flatter and matter surface but I don't think mine is faulty so much as just cheaper looking than it needed to be. I honestly thought it was silver painted plastic until it tapped my teeth on it. I'll just live with it.

Ah fair enough lol, I have to admit, I'm a fan of what I would call the brushed aluminium look, so it might just be a personal preference thing.
Where does this state USB 3.0? I know the specs suggest it but does it explicitly state "3.0" somewhere?

My recent aliexpress purchase of a USB 2.0 hub doesn't even support USB 2.0 devices
