As far as I know the gold ones are locked to an account that wins them. So you can't trade them....

Was just about to offer you mine but just realised they are supposed to be different colours so guessing we all have the white and silver ones but not whatever comes to make the set

Heat OP. Thanks for posting with full description.

There's also a video for anyone interested that makes mention of zip and overlock stitches

Hobbycraft had a good deal on SEWING MACHINES and other stuff, 15% off when you sign up with them online, another 15% if you go through quidco and the machines are delivered free, some were even discounted !! Go Look !

hmm. tempting. could do with one with a few different stitches on it, currently using one of the first electric, but otherwise completely mechanical, Jones machines which does a straight stitch at varying lengths, heh... this has definitely gone down on my list of machines to consider

Heat as it looks a good deal

Thanks for flagging the Argos link up!

Dunno which to get the gf now though!

By the way, are the Lidl ones already available? Says from 19th, which cuts my shopping opportunities a bit low for pre-xmas delivery if I miss them.

I got the Singer 1409. Its a real basic machine. Doesn't have overlock stitch that this one has. I wanted to use a stretch stitch but it didn't have that either and I'm not sure this one has got it.
As for hemming jeans, I think all normal sized sewing machine would do. You just need to fit it with a thicker needle before use.

I'm considering this or this Brother machine:

Anyone have any thoughts on which one is better than the other or what one has and the other hasn't? It's a gift for Christmas and I haven't got a clue about sewing machines!

Dude, the Silvercrest is well better - it can do overlock stitching, has 10 more programmes, more accessories (feet, etc), and is clearly bigger! I'm a bloke and don't really have a clue, but can see the Silvercrest is much better. I'm getting one in the morning from Lidl.
