These axle stands have ratchet action for quick height adjustment. They are rated and sold in pairs. Maximum capacity is 3 tonne per stand. i have been searching for some stands for a few days and cheapest i could find normal stands was about £15 and ratchet stands were about £20 and then i found these

Seem a decent price. Have some heat!

They look like friendly creatures.

Be aware Silverline are apalling when it comes to customer service; if something goes wrong with them (or they are not fit for purpose) you have to send them back at your expense and they send an identical replacement. No option of a refund.

I avoid Silverline like the plague, they're basically cheap Chinese tools marketed by some UK company whos name I forget, and very difficult to get hold of (they insist on email).

but you wouldn't go through silverline ? wouldn't you take them straight back to tescos if faultly ?
and thanks missgem

You know, when I'm under a car, two tonnes of metal, inches from my face, the thing that keeps going through my head is, "I'm glad I saved a few quid by buying cheap axle stands"...

a good price and if they encourage a few casual mechanics to invest in them rather than rely on car jacks, bricks etc. could actually benefit safety....

Have a set of these I bought from toolstation a few years back for around £20. Good quality and robust. Would agree that silverline tools are not the best however these would seem to be more that up to the job, much better than some cheap fold away jobbies

If something goes wrong I can recommend a good undertaker, never mind customer service

Makes no sense - just raise the car up more until they fit underneath!

Been looking to get a jack and axle stands so ordered these and I'll keep an eye out for a hotdeal on a jack.

Thanks

These aren't even worth a penny. Good luck when these stands fail with you underneath, Silverline are awful quality. Buy cheap, buy twice.

think about it logically if the ratchet fails the car will fall to the bottom of the axle stand. which like i posted is very high and will probably save your life

Yeah think about it if they fail you've got nothing to worry about, in fact get the kids under the car to watch and learn

I'll agree with others that Silverline are generally pretty poor, but these are a rebrand of some okay stands. I have the 'other' brand, although I can't remember the OEM name, and they're strong.
Unlike the ones I got from screwfix that came with a jack. One of those things literally popped with me under it. Thankfully the other side held. They we're the folding type though - utter rubbish. Too many joints to fail. These are just a solid lump of metal for both bits, much better.

I thought you had an ASBO now stopping you from going under cars?

Those are really good and sturdy. Less then a tenner is a great price

Have a fairly low car and struggle to get my Draper ratchet stands under it even on the lowest setting (they look fairly similar to these) - any recommendations on some low axle stands that won't break the bank?

Not always the best option. Stiff chassis cars cock the back end up when trying to jack the front and my suspension doesn't like it one bit, so lower stands would be hugely beneficial if all I want to do is mess around with front brakes etc.
